I don't think DigitalFreak says that audiophile players are overpriced per se, just that most of them are junk. DF has the same goals as nearly all of us here: good sound.

I couldn't help myself... :p  But it also goes to show that not all audiophile DAPs are the same.

Oh I know.  DF and I are good friends, and I'm not ripping into him at all.  Just having a little fun.  ;)  In fact, I'm thrilled that he's now experiencing the AK120, as I have had very few issues with it.  Can't wait to hear his impressions on it!

Yeah, I'll be doing an impressions video on both the Studio V and the AK120 in the near future.

To clarify though, I'm not trying to say that all DAP's are overpriced. What i'm saying is if you charge x amount of money for a DAP 1 it better have a good user experience and 2 sonically it better hold up to having the word audiophile used in its literature. For 240 bones a player should not have the same user experience akin to a under 50 bones bargain bin player manufactured by Joe's MP3 Player Co.

At least the AK120 both plays and looks the part of a flagship player. It took me all of 20 minutes for me to load up my tunes and walk out the door boppin to my music. That was not the case with the DX50

Can't wait to get mine back :). Listening to this song out of the SE5. Pretty nuts sub bass. Love the tune. Gonna get all their music.

I agree completely with DigitalFreak's point-of-view.  I went whole hog an bought a HM 801 only to throw it in the garbage when it quit working about a year after I got it.  I was so disappointed with its quirky behavior and the lack of support from HM, I just ended my misery and pitched it.

Yesterday, I sent a FiiO X3 back to Amazon because I was never able to upgrade the FW, after dozens of attempts.

I have been enjoying a Cowon D2+ for a few years and would buy another Cowon without hesitation except that Cowon is now being panned by many enthusiasts who probably know more than me.

I am thinking about the Astell & Kern AK100 but will hold off to see if my obsession will subside.

Who cares if the Cowon are "panned" by enthusiasts? Are they "panned" by you? That's what matters in the end!

Some of the folks here have forgotten their entry into the audio world where the only thing they knew was what their friend with the good set of cans told them.

Starting from ground zero, it's essential to rely on the expertise of others, but really it makes no sense to come onto a forum and give second-hand knowledge of a product since it wont be experience based and thus looks more like hype than anything else.

I certainly got my start into the premium sound world through forums like this about 14+ years ago.

Take in the info you can, but it's best not to hand out other people's opinions, I think that was all the the 'Preachers' were getting at.

Happy listening :L3000:

Hey all that matters is that you're happy with it.  I don't have the best portable player out there (I have an iPod Touch and a Sansa Clip Zip) and I don't have the greatest headphones out there (Audio Technica ATH-M50S), but they work great for me and I am totally happy with the sound I get from it.
