Sony MDR-7520 - Page 66

Vocal Pros (whatever they are?) may be 200 euro but Focal Spirit Professionals are not, at least not any legit pair selling for that price that I have seen.  What country are you in?

As for which, only you can answer that there has been tons written on both.  See my Focal review in my signature and compare with what you have read here.  I like both.

Had them as well as auditioned the Sig DJ. Don't check all the boxes for me and comfort was not great.

Well okay, they're 255 euro's over here in the Netherlands.

I read your review on the Focal Spirit Pro's, how would you say they will do with dubstep and rap/hiphop? I'm afraid the bass will be to lean for those genres, with either the 7520's or the Focal Pro's. Because I like a hard hitting low end.

I bought a pair of Focal Spirit Pro on Amazon.es a few weeks ago for about 170 euro shipped to Italy (and, needless to say, I was VERY happy about it:biggrin:)… it was a short-lived opportunity, but right now they are selling for about 200 euros, still on amazon.es (and pricenoia is your friend to periodically check on amazon deals).

I think that, as Focal is a French company, they are cheaper and easier to find in Europe than the Sony (also the 7520 has additional problems for european purchase and availability, which makes finding a "more affordable" pair that much more difficult).

I have not had the pleasure of hearing the 7520, but I'm personally very happy with my Spirit pros.

How would you say the bass of the Focal's performs for rap/hiphop and dubstep for a light basshead?

For Europeans the Focal PRO is better value especially if the Sony is around twice the price.

Other than that, the Yamaha MT220 can be had for £119 in the UK.

Which headphone do you think that I, as a light basshead, would prefer: The Sony 7520's, or the Focal Pro's?

Can't answer your question that well, as I do not listen to those genres… that said, in my experience, the Spirit Pro is a rather fast headphone, with a "surprising" amount of bass: if the bass is there, it will show it to you in a very good way, if it's not it will not. Very neutral, under that regard. Hope that description helps you, somewhat. Maybe you could ask on the FSP thread for some of the other owners' opinion (there might be somebody over there with your same musical tastes AND with direct experience of the FSP)?

And how does the 7520's perform for those genres for me as a light basshead? Also, how do they compare to the Focal pro's?

The 7520 is a better hip hop and rap headphone if you're any sort of bass head. The FSP is outstanding but didn't quite do it for me for the hip hop genre. Plus it was too small. Lol.

Have you ever heard the Shure SRH-1540? If yes, which has the more realistic, forward and fuller midrange and harder hitting bass; the 1540 or the 7520?

I haven't. I'm really looking forward to them. I have yet to be impressed with a Shure headphone so my hopes aren't that high.

Would you describe the 7520 as lacking air in the vocal range?

dakanao...i heard the Focal Pro recently, dun think its any basshead can or lightbasshead can..its quite neutral.

the sony is tuned for "monitoring" too..

U need to keep searching ...involving mids..hardhitting bass..soaring highs...hmmmm....

@dakanao I will have them soon and I have had the 7520 but the thing about the focal that I keep hearing is how well they can eq and someone who just got them and has the yamaha hph mt220 says they hit harder than the yamaha when eq'd. That being said since the yamaha hits harder than the 7520 then the pro might be capable but I have yet to hear it and cant wait till tuesday.

Overall though I would grap a pair of the yamaha (barely light basshead level after burn in)  or even try and look into the new sennheiser hd 6 mix or 8 dj. From what I have read though over all it sounds like the 1540 would be the best pick for you. Gelocks says the bass is a lot more than the yamaha and it also has a full midrange with an open sound to it.

If I were willing to spend for that I would just get the 1540 but for 500 I might as well save up and buy a pandora hope VI
