So I pulled the ad for my 7520 because it literally won't let me pack it up. It's sounding all kinds of awesome again tonight, kicking the Spirit Pro in the face. ROFL. :veryevil:

I may indeed keep these and just suck it up and buy the Spirit Classic. I think I'm also coming down with something. Not the best time to be making audio judgement calls as I'm starting to go deaf...

I need this guy to make the judgement for me:

Haha. No doubt I would like it. I'm into Japanese Studio Monitoring sound. It's pretty nice. If it only had dettachable cables, sigh, or if I was willing to pay to get some nice cables hardwired. I hate coiled cables and can't deal with them. So many headphones to try, so little money. :happy_face1:

What's Japanese Studio Monitoring? A term for a special sound?

Ive just placed an order with BH & Photo for a set of MDR 7520 Hopefully a good upgrade from my Denon D2000.

Had a quick listen to my brothers MDR 7509HD on the weekend, such a nice midrange with detailed highs, If it had more bass it could be the perfect set of cans.

Hopefully the new Sonys have more lowend.

Trev

Really wonder if they will match my HP100 which are fantastics!

I have both the 7509HD and the 7520. The 7520 does indeed have more bass, quite a bit in fact, both in quantity and extension. It doesn't quite have the mid-range of the 7509HD but it's not less detailed, just differently voiced, I think. A headphone with the mids of the 7509HD and the bass of the 7520 would be ideal IMO, but I think that the 7520 is as close as you're going to get!

That's a completely made up term some jackass came up with.

Finally got around to opening the 7520 and lubricating the plastic pivots.  So far all of the creaks have been silenced.  The creaks are a major downfall of the 7520 and I think most 7520s will develop them unless you let them sit on a shelf and never use them.  Mine were so bad in the left side that you could not blink without hearing a creak.

After a lot of research of what is a safe long term lubricant for plastic, I settled on PTFE spray.  Worked well using the aluminum foil trick mentioned above. You could also use graphite spray and then silicone as well.  Whatever you do, do not use wd-40 or any other mineral or petroleum based oils, it will affect the plastic long term.

Just a tip, I used painters blue masking tape to cover the driver area and port holes to prevent one fo the screws from falling in and causing any damage.  Did its job and was really easy to remove.

I hope the solution becomes somewhat permanent.  I do have the PSBs coming for a listen and review.

I've noticed that turning up the Sony's past 140dB, the creaking goes away

That's it...
I have had enough of this...
I pulled the trigger on the 7520 sonys..

As for the "headphone God", he really needs my current headphones:

The esw11:
Violin wood
Latest 53mm drivers with Elite bobbin-wound 6N-OFC voice coils
Ultra low profile
Ultra soft lambskin leather pads..
