Sony MDR-7520

How is clamping force and overall comfort on the 7520? The 7506 were a bit too snug for me and wanted to know if they are the same. I also assume that the 1R-A is more comfortable - I tried them at Best Buy and can't imagine the 7520 being better but would be nice if they were close.

I have to admit. I almost let the 7520 go when I first got them. I have largish ears, big head and did not find the 7520 comfortable initially. But because the sound kept growing on me I kept listening. In time the clamping pressure lessened and I'd say they are fairly snug now. I'm still using the original pads. As a pro tool I'm glad they have some clamp because they aren't falling off while I'm playing piano

The 1r is more comfortable. Pads are more plush.

The 7520 is like a pro version of the 1r though sonically.

Thanks. The 7506 was tolerable but hoping 7520 is a bit better. I have the MA900 now and nothing will beat it for comfort. Just interested in a closed back, dynamic hp with nice bass and the 7520 seems to fit. I don't do studio work so it's just for casual listening. It's $285 on Amazon and that seems like a great price.

yes i find the stock pleather pads get warm quickly on my ears
..will prob switch out to the beyerdynamic ones...
they also affect the sound a bit, i understand?

have some senn hd650 arriving next week so will be interesting the sound difference
and i almost forgot: to arrive shortly will also be the sony 7550 iems...will be fun.

comfort is marginal with stock pads but perfectly fine with the upgraded Beyer pads.  i consider that a required upgrade.

I just got a pair in.  I wanted a full size headphone to use for a couple of months while I researched and saved up enough money for a top notch headphone system.  I used to own the King, the Sony MDR R10s. Darn why did I sell those?  So I want to get back to that level or close to it.  Anyway, out of the box the 7520s sound kind of bright or harsh to me.   The phones I have been using the past year or so are the warmish and smooth Westone W60 IEM. So coming from those that may magnify the brightness I am hearing from the 7520s.  The reason I got the 7520s is because I really enjoyed the Sony V6, so I thought the 7520s would be a safe bet.  Hopefully things smooth out some with some burn in.

see the post above yours... the 7520 certainly do change drastically with burn-in but you really need the Beyer pads to tame the harshness and improve the comfort.

I tried a different source, my old Sony Walkman and had it on a radio station.  Not bright or harsh at all, actually this headphone is just a whole lot of fun.  Great sounding for pop and rock.  Now I am wondering why my iPhone is a little hard sounding compared to my Sony Walkman.  My iPhone files are not even not MP3s, they are all uncompressed.  Weird.

Analog vs lossy digital files.

Listen to your 7520's with FLAC files (or 320K files at the very least).

I usually don't like when you buy headphone and don't like what you ear, then ask for people their advice and they tell you burn in or brain in...Yes there is some adaptation taking place but up to a certain amount. Usually the burn-in slogan was exaggerated on audio gear so you would miss the return option window and couldn't  get your money back IMO...
I will tell you this about switching gear, the less experience you have with different headphone the more you should consider that your brain needs to adapt to the new sound or at least you should add more perspective to new sound signatures.

Use them for 2 days with different music style on different mediums. If after 2 days you are not satisfied with your purchase no amount of burn-in/brain-in will help whatsoever.

To add my own experience, I strongly disliked the sound signature of the 7520 for the first 3-4 days (and planned on returning them), and here I am 2 weeks later enjoying them greatly and thankful that I stuck it out past my initial impressions.

has been so long i forget the model number haha... maybe look back a few dozen pages in this thread where everyone was talking about them... they make a world of difference in both sound and comfort.

i put a youtube link to it. via the http hyperlink

hifisound youtube link i think.

if anyway can repost it and imbed it so it shows the actual pic (i don't know how to do that)
it'd be great for future ref so people can quickly find it on skimming.
