Trying to find an equalizer for my really crappy sound setup (noob here)

Thread Starter

So my issue is that I have hyperacusis, which makes me sensitive to some sounds over 10,000 hertz. Like the sound of chains rattling or jingling of metal. This usually isn't an issue, but in video games some characters that wear armor sometimes make that clanging sound that really hurts my ears.

So I have a crappy stereo that I am using to reroute the sound through my TV with. For the input from the TV, it doesn't have HDMI it just uses the Red and White from the Yellow (video), Red and White cables.

Is there an equalizer I could get that would work with this kind of setup?

Is this even what I should be doing?

If this isn't possible, I can upgrade my stereo if I need to.

Sorry if this sounds confusing at all. I'm willing to answer any questions to the best of my ability.

Might be more than you want to spend, but MiniDSP will do it. It's a programmable digital signal processor. Bit of a learning curve with it, but it can be set up as a high pass filter that would lop over everything over a certain frequency.

Otherwise, research devices that have a PEQ (parametric EQ).
