Is it possible to upgrade the cable on a Grado headphone?

Not only is it possible, from my experience it can yield great results... dependant on the cable design itself to what degree, but all that's good gets better. Same goes for CD3000, K-1000, etc

Does grado make custom cable replacements or is this DIY stuff?

A follow up question, what kind of cables do you/they use as replacement?

Not that I know of... I've used my own designs, BlackSilver to name one. Larry

How is the cable replaced, by soldering?

I`m hoping not, the sennheisers have it easy with the cable changing.

i think that is the only way... or else i'm sure companies would make cables for the grados

anyone knows who offer the cable replacement for the grados? i love my sr 225s and would love to have a better cable for it

If you pay for the materials I'd be willing to put a new cable on your Grados free of charge, simply because I'm curious. It'd be pretty easy to put a new cable on made with pre-built Canare or Belden cable.

The easy thing to do is to solder a DIY cable or Senn upgrade cable (removing the connectors) to the drivers. However, looking at some the photos in the link above, there's enough room to add a mini-jack if you want a detachable cable. If you don't feel comfortable soldering, I would take up the offer by Hajime to mod your Grado phones.
