Dunu DN-1000 - Dunu's hybrid IEM - Impressions thread - Page 13

I have to agree with @mrinspire 's in depth review.  It is a very good sounding IEM but the fit is pretty good for me.  Heavy, but it stays in place.  Another winner, thanks @ericp10

I know you mentioned the H200 with an upgraded cable... would you rank that higher than the Dunu then? I know adding a cable would essentially double the price of the Dunu but I was just curious.

I never heard the H-200 with the upgrade cable. I just know it's available.

I wonder what they are going to do with the DN-2000's sound, hope the November release is true :)

Hehe..what is this? With the comply without any metal ring attached, the bass is neutral to light, overall sound is light but very (Veryyyyyyyyy) nice! I am impressed!

IMHO I find that pairing a bit lacking in detail. Although it does sound good and smooth, guitars are far way back and sound unnatural.

Took a trip to my local audio-store, and just as I was about to leave these were there. I figured, why not give these a listen............

After a cursory listen, I was pleasantly surprised. They were very pleasing to listen to. I am more inclined to enjoying the music than overly analyzing it with this earphone.

The bass is effortless, and has excellent depth, and weight so there's no need to crank up the volume to feel it. In fact, these sound more balanced and nicer to me at lower volumes. Am not sure why, but the bass may just be a tad lethargic, it seemed to be too separate from the ensemble at times. Bear in mind, that these are superficial impressions.

It also has a decent soundstage, and to me, vocals take a step back in the mix, but they are very clear, and perceptible. Mids were almost to the point of being dry, but not quite, with good timbre. Vocals seem to have more polish than that of the GR07, and I think I prefer them here. I think in Mark2410's review of these, he claims that they remind him of the GR07. The GR07 MKll sounds a bit more balanced, and artless than these to me. I think they're quite reminiscent of the JVC FX500, but with less peaky highs. I sensed that similar to the IE8s these were quite susceptible to insertion depth. Too deep and vocals have no air, transparency is reduced, and the bass is quite forward. Too far out, and it becomes a bit bright. Might take some fiddling to find that perfect spot, for me.

With the market for universals having gone haywire, with universals costing over thousands of dollars, I was expecting some ridiculous price. However, I was greatly surprised that they were about US165.00. These are excellent performers!

Yeah, after demoing a pair today, I'll be making the purchase on these. Listening to them right now actually. Nice job Dunu.

For the last two hours I've been a-b-cing the AX-60, DN-1K, and MA750. Just three really great earphones, each with its own special quality and characteristics. I wish I had time to go into depth what stands out in each of them, but I don't. But at the various price points you can't go wrong with anyone of these three. I love all three. Do I have preference? Yes. Out of the three the AX60 has a depth, imaging, space, and thickness out of this world. you just have to get the right shallow fit with it. And the bass! The bass is what the FXZ100-200s should have been. Powerful, forceful, clear, detailed, but never too overpowering. Make no mistake though, it is a basshead hybrid (in a neutral sort of way if that makes any sense....lol).

 hi Ericp,

How would you compare the sound signatures between the AX60 and DN-1000?

Cheers!

Hello d marc0,

DN-1000 has a wider soundstage, a bit more mids focused, but sometimes instruments sound a little congested in the mids. The Dunu has a nice thickness to its sound.

AX-60, believe it or not, has thicker sound. The sound soundstage isn't as wide as the Dunu, but there is more space between instrument and better imaging. Bass is more, thicker and cleaner (even with the neutral filters). Vocals have more air around them. Again, the mistake I made initially was trying to wear the AX-60 the way I wear the DN-1K. The Dunu required a deeper insert to shine its best. The Astrotec requires more of a shallow insert. I also think the AX-60's signature is a bit more refined than the DN-1K. Both, however, are very good sounding IEMs, I don't feel like I want to get rid of one for the other at this point. The signatures are different enough. I did feel, however, that I didn't need the H-200 once I bought the Dunu.
