Two new HifiMan players announced: HM700 and HM802 - Page 20

That is good to hear about random play seeming to work well.

Another question: Does the 802 have an equalizer? If so, how many bands does it have?

Neither HM901 nor HM802 have EQ. Not even HM700 has EQ. Well, Hifiman is no fan of EQ.

So it has EQ now? Mine was running on the old firmware and I didn't see EQ anywhere.

Scrap that. I just found it hidden inside ">" + hold. Sorry about the mix up.

Are you absolutely sure neither of the HM-901, 802, or 700 have the 5 band EQ the HM-801 has?

Could you please confirm that? Thanks!

Ah! just saw your above correction!!! Fiuuuu... zero EQ would have been absolute no go for me...

Are the EQ identical to HM801 5 bands on all three new models? Thanks!

I am only talking about HM700 having EQ. I am pretty sure HM901 and HM802 have no EQ. Both are running on the same firmware and I have the HM901 with me right now (and no, no hidden menu in HM901 / HM802 that will give you EQ).

Pre-production batch, so no manual.

I find no eq capability on my HM802.  It is what it is.

EQ on HM700 is pretty good actually, only 5 bands but well implemented.

They used to put EQ on 801, 602 etc but using the EQ degrades sound quality drastically, so they removed it on the newer generation DAPs, excepet for HM700, which is using a EQ friendly chip.

HM-901 - no EQ

HM-802 - no EQ

HM-700 - yes EQ

:veryevil:

The last one has it, and it works like a charm, it really does the trick with RE-400B. Those respond very nicely to dB boosts and drops.

:beerchug:Sometimes I feel the vocal is too far away due to large soundstage, +1 or 2 on the 1kHz band fixes it nicely.

I'm really intrigued by the  HM700  but there is an unsettling amount of reviews on amazon pointing to re400's high failure rate.  Is this something that's fixed with the re400b?
