Two new HifiMan players announced: HM700 and HM802 - Page 12

+1. I would think of it as a bonus. True, you may enjoy the 400's more. I wouldn't be complaining.

May be i will get the X5 first, joker's impression make me change my mind
I will try HM 700 and Re400b later :))
I love HiFiman sound sign i wonder when will they release something new like Re1000 ? It's in my buying list now :)

I might get the X5 in a week or two, so I can give you some early impression. But given the price and hardware difference, I suspect X5 will be a class better than HM700 / X3 / DX50.

Waitting for ur impression, i found X3 didn't suit with my Re600, it make the treble become smooth, i need treble sparkle a little more, but i love X3's mid hope X5 will fixed this.

I think the DX50 would be better suited for your RE600. X3 is a warmer sounding DAP.

In my country Dx50 got too many bug. i wont risk my money to something full of bug ...
Now i pair Re600 with Sony F805, it's suit with F805 better than X3, Better soundstage, and treble sparkle. But i found X3's mid is more neutral

Thinking of getting the HM700. Anyone know where to get a 4-conductor mini TRS plug for it? It seems it only comes with an adapter. Will use it to reterminate a spare cable for my ASG-1. I know, it comes with an RE400B, but the ASG-1 is more comfortable to me than conventional universal shells as the shell shape is less dependent on using the eartips to keep them in place (no need to insert them too deep in my ear canal).

This may be a bit of a stretch, but have you heard the RE-400 off a Sansa Clip+ and could possibly make a small comparison to the HM700 + RE-400B?  I'm just wondering if this would be worth while switching to the latter, as the RE-400 is my favorite IEM so far :o

I do have Clip+. Clip+ in itself as quite a decent source. Disregarding the balanced nature of the amp section, I think HM700 is better, but not necessary a few times better as the price suggested. But I can say that the balanced RE400 is pretty much a different (and better) beast compared to the normal RE400. It is more neutral and better extended on both ends. To put it short and sweet, HM700 really does drive RE400 to its best. For a package as a whole, the HM700 + RE400B is noticeably better than Clip+ + RE400.

Very cool, thanks for the comparison!  I think I'm sold on trying the HM700+RE400B out and comparing the two combos side by side myself to see if it's worthwhile a setup to use instead.  I think I could sacrifice better SQ over storage space (I've got a 64GB mSD in my Clip+) - shame they didn't include a card reader in this model though.

I see from the specs page on hifi man site that the hm700 does not support aiff files.  Seems kind of strange that a device hoping to steal some sales from Apple upgraders would not support a popular format in the Apple ecosystem.   Then again perhaps the largest segment of the portable player market is not his market.

EDIT:  I see, the HM802 does so it must be a matter of price point.

hm802 is vocal oriented compared to hm901, somewhere between hm801 & hm901 in terms of sound signature, closer to hm801.

If lush mid is your thing, go for it.

Hey guys,

Quick question for anyone with the HM700. I am confused about how the RE-400B's plug in. Do they just plug in to the headphone jack, or do you need to use that weird headphone and usb combo as seen on the site? I am assuming this player is good to go with the 400's, but just wanted to make sure. Not really digging how they plug into the side either.

If you use the stock balanced RE400 that comes with HM700, then straight into the headphone jack. The adapter is for everything else.
