Philips Fidelio L2 - Page 38

The sound layering of the SRH1540 is what makes them special. They have a sound that is among the deepest, immersive sounds I have heard especially when using a more powerful source..I am into my lush sounds and the SRH1540 takes lushness and smoothness to a nicely refined level for me. The L2 is right up there with my SRH1540 but does not top it for sheer music enjoyment. However, the L2 compliment my SRH1540 well for me and has it's own personality to separate itself from my SRH1540 so I appreciate both cans.

I would have a hard time parting with either one actually..

Can someone compare L2 with NAD HP50?

The L2 has much better soundstage width, depth, and height. It makes the NAD sound 2 dimensional. The treble on the L2 is more refined, less rough but similar forwardness. The mids are more forward on the NAD but the L2's mids are smoother and clearer. NAD has much better bass impact and body.

Comfort wise and design wise, L2 is just better than the NAD.

In all honesty, the NADs are great for the price but they just didn't impress me.

I just realized that the L2 has angled drivers… go figure

yup very important to get the the right way round  !!!!

Been playing with my LCD2's of late, bought a set of LCD3 drivers second hand, and installed them into the LCD2 shells.... I have to admit the upgrade is much bigger than i anticipated, every aspect of the LCD3 driver is better than the 2...

interestingly though the overall balance of the sound is more like the L2 than the LCD2 was !!!

The LCD2 was on the polite side, could play bad tracks with ease, very forgiving, the 3 drivers are a lot more revealing, the presentation is bigger, sharper, more depth....

but going from the L2 to the newly Modded LCD's as less of a shock now !!!!

the L2's are like a baby LCD3    .........

If only Audeze made headphones the size and weight of the L2 but without any less quality in sound…

I must say, the earcups look a great deal more comfortable.

would be nice indeed.

I;m gonna be putting the old LCD2 drivers into the cups of  a pair of superlux 688b, have a feeling they will work well, semi open backs, with some damping, and would be very much lighter......  should be fun.....

It's strange for them to be similar given that they use different technologies. How would you say they compare in playing complex music (eg. some classical)? One of the strengths of the L2 is making different parts sound clear when there is a lot going on in the music. Whereas the LCD2, I've read, can sound muddy/congested when busy.
