I'm new here. Help me choose a pair of headphones with Beats Studio-like bass.

Hi, I am new to this site. I see that there is a nice collection of threads covering many topics here and was hoping that this community could help me choose a pair of over-the-ear headphones.

I do have a pair of AKG K240. They are very nice, however the bass is weak and it is also a Semi-open construction. I want something closed, noise cancellation is not a must though.

I was reading about Shure, Audio Technica, Sennheiser and AKG. I was also looking at the Beats Studio because of the bass and the 50 Cent Streets & Ludacris Souls. I know that the Beats, Streets and Souls are all about marketing and hype, which is why I want to steer clear from them even though they look nice.

So basically the type of headphone I'm looking for is one with the BASS that can match or beat the Beats Studio but still having the ability for low-mids-highs. However, BASS is priority, my AKG K240 will cover everything else for me. I am looking for a headphone that will be used to play rap/hip-hop music.

Looking forward to reading your great responses.

Thanks!

Note: It would be great if the price stayed below the Beats Studio. :)

So you want a bloated Bass sound or something more pinpoint. There are tons of sets that offer up Bass like the Beats for cheap.
Malx list is good. I think the Denon is his best pick. I actually like the D600.
How about The Beyer DT770's? They have a great Sub Bass, Mids are pulled back, and treble can be pesky at times.
It's really hard to get the monster Bass you are after as well as everything else that's just as great. For me the Beyers have Monter Bass, too much for me, I like more of Balance sound.

So the Audio Technica PRO700 MKII's are superior to the Beats Studio in every way?

The 700 MKII bass response is better. Plus build quality is top notch

DT770s are nice--better bass emphasis than many phones. But Ultrasone HFI-580s have more bass impact to me. See this discussion thread about them: http://www.head-fi.org/t/534029/fight-the-beats-hype-ultrasone-hfi-580-hfi-580-appreciation-thread
