Sony XBA-2 vs Philips Fidelio S1 ?

Thread Starter

Been looking to upgrade my sony EX-MDR 300, and got it down to between XBA-2 and Fidelio S1.

The Fidelio S1 seem to have good reviews for sound quality mostly across the board from high-low yet the fit of the earphones seem to throw up a bit of criticism saying that the earbuds that come with it don't give a good fit which affects the sound.

Yet the Sony sometimes get reviews saying the sound isn't that great. But recently there has been a large price drop in them so I'm not sure if people are saying the sound isn't great as the price is quite high rather than if the sound is good period!

I'm in the UK and can get both for around £60 which is around $100! if there are any headphones which are seen to be constantly better than either of these two for around this price it would be great to hear about them!

Cheers!!

I had more or less the same problem as you have - a sweet problem, but still a problem. But in the end, I went for the Philips Fidelio 1.

In swedent he XBA-2 hifi costs ~150€ and the Fidelio S1 you get for ~ 80€. Price helped a lot. I was also looking at the Yamaha EPH 1000, but it seems many have had issues over its build quality.

I haven't had that much time with them yet, I bought them to have a good pair of plugs for my iBasso DX50, and when lsitening yesterday, out of the box, they felt a bit high and airy and in metal didn't strike me as the best bass solution. Definately not bad. Switching to Heather Nova and Norah Jones though was a treat. So I guess that with a bit of time they will prove to be a good pair for the time being, but I'm really interested in the SONY XBA-2's as well and will wonder if I got the right pair :S.

Hope you get the right one for your listening. :)
