Holy Schiit! Add DSD to any DAC for $149. Meet Loki...

Hey all,

You've been wondering what Schiit was going to do about DSD for a while now. Today, we have the answer: Loki, a dedicated DSD DAC and switching system that you can use to add DSD to any DAC—not just ours!

Yes, you read that right. DSD for any DAC. $149.

This is the least expensive way to add DSD to your system—from anyone, anywhere on the planet. And, like all Schiit products, it’s made right here in the USA. Annnd…this is real DSD, transmitted via DoP and reconstructed with proprietary Schiit code running on a 32-bit PIC microcontroller. Because Loki is a DSD-dedicated design, we were able to optimize the output stage and filtering to the unique requirements of DSD. This means that Loki can sound better than DSD-capable DACs that cost many, many times more.

Loki is in-stock and available for immediate shipment.

Special head-fi bonus: let’s talk Schiit—this year and next.

What we’ve been doing this year. You may have noticed that we’re running a little slower on new products. That’s because we’ve been taking vacations in Tahiti and eating bon-bons…no, wait, not really. That’s because we’ve been working on making sure we can keep up with the current products. We’ve increased production, added new people, and improved processes so that you’ll be assured of even better Schiit. You may have noticed we're in stock more often. Finally, we’re at a point where we can keep up with the demand. We think. Maybe.

And, oh yeah, new website. Looks just like the old one? Yep, that’s right. The old one wasn’t broken, except where you couldn’t see it. It was built on a creaky, outdated platform that needed to go. The new site was built on a fully custom platform especially for our needs, which means much better performance, streamlined shopping, and a couple of new nifty things:

1. Integrated FAQ/Reviews/Downloads on the product pages. Now you don’t have to wade through the site to find out everything you need to know about a product.

2. A new Guides section. For people just getting up and running, this has guides on how to choose an amp, how to get connected, how to set up Windows USB drivers, DSD from Loki, etc.

What we’ll be doing very shortly. Because of this growth, we’re moving into a new palacial office building with a gourmet chef, errand runners, masseuses—oh, no, wait, wrong again. That's for large corporations with 8-figure ad budgets and multi-tier distribution that complain about how it's impossible to make any inexpensive products in the USA anymore. We’re actually just moving into a much larger, but still pretty bare-bones, building in Valencia as of October 2013, so that we’ll have plenty of room for the future. You’ll see why in 2014. Maybe.

What we’ll be doing into next year. We can’t talk about new products, of course, but we can talk in generalities. Expect Ragnarok and Yggdrasil to finally make the scene. Expect some neat new things to flesh out the line. And expect a couple of really, really big surprises…

Thank you again for your support, and all the best!

Schiit is on a roll. I'll stick to PCM, as this just sounds like more snake oil for those with god's ears to claim makes an incredible difference, but good on Schiit to make it affordable for the masses.

Still waiting for you guys to give in and make a dac/amp all in one. I mean, JUST DO IT. LOL.

OMG, this product is a blast! Well done! BUT... Dac/Amp all-in-one owners seem to be out of luck :)

That would be a downgrade over the aluminum.

Sweet. I mainly mentioned that since I seem to recall you mentioning speaker amps in one of the other Schiit threads.

Edit: Maybe a stat amp?

Sorry Jason I'm a noob and have questions.

Does it matter if DAC is limited to 24/96, 16/48?

How does the existing DAC affect the resulting sound?

Is the Loki a modified Modi?
