I still can't believe I gave away my E905 a few years ago, when I was having a misjudged clearout! Been kicking myself ever since, about that.

Still, I feel the D-777 totally holds it's own against the E905, in terms of SQ.

But we're straying perilously OT... ;)

Sony used to make some wonderful portable gear that beat almost everything else on the market, in terms of overall combined featureset + SQ.

Happy days...

It difficult to make our case against the younger guys that when Sony wants to produce STOA players, they simply can.  I've no doubt that the ZX1 will be great.  Imagine how many amp modules they have produced since the dawn on cassette walkman in 1970's.  I sure miss my MD.  I took my Sharp MD-SS323 everywhere with me while in college.  BTW, digital amplifier is nothing new in portable audio.  Sharp & Kenwood were at the floor front of this technologies back in late 1990's.  I'm so old....:(

I just found this link over in the X5 thread.

It seems Sony has a new contender.

Its definitely going to be one to watch out for, I'm pretty excited about it personally, we should have more specs revealed in a month at CES, then we will know for sure where this dap stands, whether its all show, or is packing serious hardware. There is a chance it might use the ESS Sabre dac, then the other daps will have serious competition. I'm already loving the 4.65" OLED screen though, that's just awesome.

Agreed but you know the saying if it's sound too good to be true then it probably is. There is very little information and the specs thrown in seem way more than what the size of the dap can carry, so we shall see. If they ever do walk the walk and talk the talk then by all means we should all get excited.

Actually this dap is pretty large, but is slim, dimensions:

Calyx M- 14.15 x 7.08 x 1.4 (cm)

DX-100 - 11.8 x 7.18 x 2.75 (cm)

Should easily pack the specs presented so far, the only thing I am sure it won't pack is an amp as beefy as the DX-100 and HM-901, but they are freaks of nature, I reckon the amp will be more powerful than the ZX-1's though, which isn't very hard to pull off :P Basically it may be a great dap for iem users, similar to the zx1 but on a higher level if Calyx do it right hopefully, but for full size headphones I would wager the DX-100 and HM-901 unbeatable for now.

I agree, after postage then conversion and then GST in my country, the price will be close to and over 1250AUD. No thanks. I think the Sony or X5 will suffice plenty for now.

That's what caught my eye, I'm a big screen fanatic although those dimensions of the case are huge.

You might also be glad to hear like I was, that the Calyx M screen resolution is 1280x800, which is HD 16:10 so we can watch movies beautifully on this, unlike Sony's 854x480 16:9, pfft.

And although the dimensions are huge, at least the sides of the player/screen are borderless and the player it self is fairly thin at 1.4cm.

Unnecessary for my use, I merely want a super quality audio player. Audio only, no phone, video, coffee maker, tea maker, game console or back rubber.

typical no tea-maker,  wish Sony would get their act together, think I'll re-think my order.
