Thanks, a big pro in that area with the possibility the DX5 might be able to hold more capacity later on with the SD cards.

what if the Sony ZX2 comes out next year and improves where the ZX1 could do bettter (amp, screen, memory slot) :P

There will be good deals to be had on second hand ZX1's, just like when Sony done the RX100 MKII high end compact camera the price of the first RX100 model was a good bargain to be had.

What if Sony ZX2 has a OLED screen with 256 internal flash and two sd card slots with an amp that can power a town the size of Swindon or maybe just a pair of 600ohm cans and have battery playback of at least 50 hours with high res audio and Sony finally put the headphone jack and playback buttons on the top of the player with the most natural dynamic resolution across the sound spectrum as Sonys best sounding dap since the ZX1!

That would be icing on the cake for me and most probably another £300 added to the price!

I will keep dreaming though of the perfect Sony Walkman

Can you be our ZX1 advent calendar!

I don't think you will regret letting the Z go once you hear the ZX1 hear your new ZX1 (I hope anyway!)

It will be a long five weeks, thats all I know.

Fair point considering XBA 1-4 replaced by 10-40, MDR 1R by 10R, PHA-1 by PHA-2. Looks like they're juicing out every release.

I will hold on off this player, since I aint convinced Sony bringing out the better of the next version of what they release. I still find Z walkman much better than F. ZX-1 just looks like a bigger brother of F.

Storage is great but the issue of replacing battery is a concern to me esp. at such a high price tag. Its something I have to think before I buy.

I know what you mean, I am like 2.5 weeks in to my 8 week wait for my UM CIEMs. The waiting is not easy.

Oh well...thanks for trying.

I really hope this turns out well for Sony. For me Sony has been a hit or miss with their daps and mostly miss. It would really do well for there to be an audiophile dap that has good UI that doesn't cost over 1k. It's a shame theres no micro sdhc slot for additional memory but that's to be expected as none of the Sony daps I've owned have a memory card slot.

I decided to give up the preorder.
Will wait and see impressions and if doesn't even beat the ak 100 on sound won't bother.

I can honestly say that I would pick my Z1070 over a AK120 for red-book recordings (lossless) any day of the week, the AK's may have minor improvements because of their hi-res capabilities but it's not a night & day difference.

What 'phones / IEMs / CIEMs are you using with the Z1070?

The stock AK100 is hardly a good benchmark.  Sony ZX-1 should have no trouble surpassing that.  My F807 is better sounding than the stock AK100 in standard lossless playback.

I have a NWZ-A845 runnig right now. It can drive all of my cans quite well without the help of any amp. And my Ultrasone Sig PRO / DJ plus the lovely Sony MDR EX1000 are perfectly from this DAP. So why should Sony now start to build anything that is worse?

Be a long, long wait for that bus to arrive then.  It's only taken Sony all this time to produce a higher end dap that costs over £350.  I think the size thing is just a logical approach to what size a premium Walkman should be instead of been an oversized smart phone form which makes it less "Walk"man in terms of practability.

Keep on dreaming though with the follow up premium Walkman to the Z (which is the ZX1). I will keep dreaming with you though but I am certainly not going to miss this bus wondering if Sony will make another high end dap soon. (with their track record of inconsistency that could be a long time but would essetially be anchored upon how sales of how the ZX1 pan out)

The battery thing is an unfortunate path the bigger corporation seem to have taken which is partially a way of slimmer designs from these manufacturers when they first introduced this sealed battery thing but also to drain more money out of us when we all need to replace the dead battery for all of us not confident enough to swap it out ourselves.

How does it work out there (in Japan) Anak, have they always done this pre release demo models (beta so to speak) to listen to in Japan as I do not know anywhere else where manufacturers let you see the physical model unless of course it's at something like the CES show of course.

Is a reason it is done for Sony to gauge last minute feedback from potential customers so they can tweak it before release (still maybe enough time to change programming specs before production ramps up on the line) or simply to drum up interest in it purely from a sales perspective.

Which ever it may be I wish they exercised this method to us poor Europeans!
