Are you getting the ZX1 on release then Honey Boy?

...haha you most certainly did!  It sure has been a while. You've since then upgraded to um um JH 16s,  whilst I'm still with the trusty IE8's and looking to get some ER 4s.  Never really built up the courage for customs....

Considering the cost of the ZX1, I'm really hoping to get a listen first before committing to purchasing it. With 128GB, it'd be a long term buy for me. I'll be in Japan around the time of the ZX1's release so if the SQ is to my liking, I'll definitely pick one up!

I would say I would eagerly await your impressions Honey Boy when you listen to them but am going to take a educated guess and be one of those crazy horses to pre-order with an educated guess this will sound at least acceptable in grand scheme of things.  FX cables gave up the ghost a long time ago which lead to me with my old Shure SE530 cable issues to going once and for all whole nine yards for customs as like you I generally intend to buy for more long term than short term. Had my X series approx 3.5 years now and unlike many my battery is still going relatively strong although I feel this ZX1 release is a well timed replacement for the X.  I did have the Z also but regretfully let that go based on size and lack of tactile playback buttons.

Still very happy with my JH16's, so much so I have not felt the need to replace them, only addition was the Heir 5.0's which are my back up/ occasional listen to earphones.

Another pair of customs would be nice but there is always something like the ZX1 coming out!

ZX1 will hopefully be long term for me taking into account the outlay and 128gb is finally a acceptable amount of space even in wav and it wont be for at least another couple of years before Sony decide to bump any new future Walkmans to 256gb unless they finally introduce sd card slot at some stage as they seem to be drip feeding what everyone wants on a Walkman with every gen they bring out.

So confused the z is tempting but slightly too big  ...what i really want is the F886 64gb i dont want the ZX1...but i need somebody on here to give a good review i learn towards a warm sound signature i am not too much of a mid centric player fan...The X3 and DX50 sound tempting but the UI  just does not cut it for me.......So i am waiting for the good folks on give me a good hands on.

I'm in that situation too, although I'm looking for a more true-to-the-sound PMP as opposed to coloured. XD

You can also wait for X5 guys, FiiO is working with a professional UI designer this time to make things perfect. Also the bugs they covered in X3 will be already solved in X5 too. Maybe it is worth checking, isn't it. ;) Also the price will be less than ZX1, it has 2 micro sd slots, more connectivity options and world wide available.

And it won't have WiFi access. That was one of the reasons why I was looking at the F880 series.

Well if it is the wifi you are looking for in high resolution dap, there are really not many options for you.

nah, He said that with the JH13, the F886 sound on par with the DX50, AK100. Before that he mentioned with higher impedance earphones the F886 are veiled and flat. So we can assume the DX50 has a better amp section.

Correct. We need to take into account the IEM pairing when reading impressions and review.

Regarding F886 v 806 i won't consider it an upgrade on sound. UI is smoother and the new F (obviously) and is easily as good as current gen smartphone's responsiveness.

The more I think about it, Sony should be the one company that can produce a really slim 5inch smartphone AND a perfect matching slim d-class DAC/AMP addon connected via nfc digital out. Not unlike how they create the QX lens camera for the photog enthusiasts, we audiophile can use need a sleeker and slimmed amp/dac with our phones. I will happily ditch my note3 for something like this.

Right, that's the point. ;)

Besides, the screenshots I've seen of what that "professional UI designer" put together are just awful. It looks like what crappy theme designers put together for custom ROMs in Android. Hopefully what I saw were old.

If the sound quality is the same as or slightly better than my Z I will definitely buy it because of the responsiveness of the UI. My Z always crashes when using Poweramp. Sometimes the music skips as well. The sound quality is really good though the best sounding music player I have so far.

I might have been able to help you out with the cables. There are some nice places in Taipei, that sometimes fix your earphones better than they were originally! I guess shipping back and forth is the main issue...

I sold my X a while back, and regret it immensely, but I can understand your need to upgrade. I really miss the vocals on that little player despite currently owning the Z. I do feel your issues with the Z though. Here's to hoping the ZX1 will be IT!

Wish there was a place like that in the UK that specialized in stuff like that,  ffunny enough I still have the FX500 sitting in the drawer waiting a proper burial!

I think the X was a largely forgotten player once the Z came out as it after all did have more resolution and detail but the X was a one of special by Sony with that unique signature it has which has not been done before it or since which makes it still addictive to listen to three and half years on.  Your spot on with the vocals as i felt the X handled them more direct up front where as the Z felt a little dispersed at times.

Hope the ZX1 vocals have the X trait of been more to the fore of the soundstage compared to the Z.

My other anticipated concern is as Sony are aiming their ZX1 as the first hi-fi dap they have done is they try and make it over analytical or to flat and sterile so it losses it's musicality aspect due to a lack of dynamics.  Just my dreaded nightmare of what looks like a almost dream player from Sony.

I'm hoping the ZX1 will also be good enough I will not fish around for another dap for quite a while so I can concentrate on other targets like a desktop set up again and maybe another pair of ciem's!

What screenshots? Nothing has been shown about that.
