I'm sure all the other customers must have been thinking / saying, "Look at that man, listening to the pink player" ! ( What an odd & sad world we live in.....if I had the opportunity to listen, and the only option was a pink one, i'd take it !! )
I'd take a pink one! It's rather boring for me to own yet another black or white piece of electronic equipment.

But yeah I'm curious about the sound of the F880 too.

This time I switched off the only thing I could find that was some kind of DSP (Clear Audio, in this case. No idea what it is). Even with it off, soundstage sounds different (and I'd like others who have heard chime in), dare I say wide by comparison against the 901 too.

Something in me would like to say resolution isn't as high as the 901 but I'm not certain. I've just been awed by the soundstage that it was hard for my to focus on the resolution.

The airiness of the highs (cymbals...did wow me), suited my tastes - a lot. This is with my TG!334.

Funnily with the MH335DW, the effects weren't so dramatic.

Tip: if the 2nd flr Walkman Sony Ginza store is crowded, head up to the top 4th flr where you talk to sales & order, there's another ZX1 hidden there. Same 5 min max notice card but no one queuing up there.

Anakchan, thanks for revisiting and giving us further impressions.  Sounds like it's @ least living up to expectations and playing with the big boys like the HM901/AK120.  The price is spot on too with key features IMO with the great form factor.  Looking forward to the launch, I don't think it's limited in any way so I can wait to pick one up @ launch.

Anyway, I'm biting the bullet and ordering one straight from the store. They'll deliver to my home. They also offer some kind of discount (dunno what it's for) but I'll take any discount they give biggrin.gif. The case is still unavailable for order, so I can only get the screen protector & a USB digital out cable.

Edit: One thing I forgot to add, the touch screen performance did annoy me a little today. It wasn't slow to act on my side and tap gestures. However, prior to playing with the ZX1 I was playing with  Sony's new up-coming 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 Xperia.

When you get your zx1, do you mind comparing the zx1 to your 901 in terms of their performance as sources?

That's same old Sony for you since they got knocked of their worldwide perch by Apple several years ago, they don't know whether to stay or go in terms of world wide releases due to lack of sales deem it not profitable for the numbers they shift hence why Japan who still crave Sony in their own back yard get all the goodies as they shift the numbers. Hence I am unfortunately skeptical about the ZX1 be released in UK let alone an uncapped version here.

Never known a manufacturer to physically show demo a product in a shop two months prior to release, wish that happened here in the UK!  Is that the japanese way?

I know you had limited time with the ZX1 but without trying to get you to compare it to my old trusty X1060 or the Z1070 I had as I know sonically the ZX1 should be better but just from those initial impressions you had what is the signature like on the ZX1 and perhaps in comparison to the last two flagship models the X & Z just from a signature point of view?

Take it you talking about the F series?  Really should be 128GB which should be the minimum now for any dap now with how long flash players have been on the scene now with memory card prices dropping all the time.

I get approx 750+ of wav files on my 32GB X series so double that for 64GB and then quadruple for the ZX1's

I am waiting for the comparison in sound with this and the  F880 series

I contemplated the F series but now since learning of the ZX1 I think anyone who can stretch to this model as it looks like it will be hopefully something special and it could be one of those models Sony do not repeat.

It reminds me of how Sony used to make stuff in the late 80's, 90's  through to early 2000's with an eye to detail with premium materials, just al rests on whether they pull of the actual sound quality and signature of this player and I like to think for the extra money it is not just the premium look and finish that is improved .

Is their any inscription '35th Walkman Anniversary' on the walkman anywhere?

Looks like there isnt so hopefully this is the only ZX-1 version!

When I was young I wouldnt dare to be caught in pink. But now having 2 toddlers (boy & girl) I'm not ashamed of pink shirts, pink sheets or even pink electronics.

The "pink" attitude that sadly man has cast upon the world, is very sad ! Girls, from a young age, are conditioned to like pink....pink is for a girl, blue is for a boy.....WAKE UP WORLD.....IT'S JUST A COLOUR.....NOT AN IDENTITY !!!

You would expect given the price, it should be of a very high quality.....audio wise, being the most important factor, of course !

Wheres it comes from then there is a 35th anniversary edition in addition to "only the ZX-1 version"?

Far as I can see this ZX1 would be the Anniversary edition for 2014, i think they have spent enough developing this new F & ZX1 out of their budget in the Walkman dept to have another different model come out to the ZX1.  If anything an anniversary edition if released during the year of 2014 would involve a special colour, packaging and at a stretch maybe a 256gb flash or even bundled with a special version of one of their xba or MDR earphone/ headphone range.  Just pure speculation on my part of course!

I damn hope so, otherwise it is just a F model in drag!  :confused_face(1)::eek:

I am thinking of ordering the F 880 series especially the 64gb ..but if the zx1 beats it considerably then i am getting the zx1 ....i wonder if there would be a group buy

Can do for sure. Whilst keeping all 4, AK120, HM-901, Tera, & ZX1 may be excessive, I may have to pick one or two to slim down but don't think it'll be the 901 just yet.

Actually, I have this gut feeling Sony making a decent come-back in terms of product, integration, and aesthetics. Aside from the the ZX1 & F880, I also played with their DSC-QX100 which is a seriously cool gadget that borders on privacy issues, and their Vaio Tap 11. The integration of the DSC-QX100 with the phone as being the camera interface is seriously cool. It's not flawless (e.g. wait, there's no flash!) but the concept is awesome.

As for demo of products way in advance, is a great way to generate demand (if you have a showroom). However, along with being extremely enthusiastic in showing upcoming products, old models get taken off the shelf too - i.e. I couldn't compare the upcoming F880s/ZX1 with the older F80x or Z-series as there were none!

I'll do better next visit. The stares aren't as bad as the winks or the pat on the bum.

Actually not that I noticed. That is a good question.
