Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model - Page 364

Hi there,

I'm new here. Just bought a new Sony NW-F887 and I've got a first problem - I can use only about 26 GB of 64 GB (ok 59 GB in reality). Is it normal? Is there a solution to free storage space? I can't find anything to delete to regain claimed storage space.

Thank you for advice in advance.

That's typical of devices that use part of the onboard memory for system files. Just feel lucky that even more wasn't used. Theoretically you can get rid of apps that you don't use, but be careful.

This needs to really be a sticky at the front of the thread as it is an important user adjustment for ZX1 users/owners.

Thank You, but I can't find it...

To use that much space is far from typical from an Android device.

Do you use a Mac? I've read that Macs can leave a lot of files behind and also that you have to make sure that the recycle bin is emptied while the device is plugged in so that the files are deleted.

Good luck,
Paul

For instance in case of Sony NW-F886 (32 GB internal memory) with the same soft it would about free 3 GB of usable space. There should be a solution.

I use both Mac and PC. Just tried it on my Samsung Win 7 PC and it's the same...

The free space on the f886 should be a lot more than the 26GB you have free.

Forgive me for 'teaching granny to suck eggs' but if you go into settings and then storage, you should see a graphical representation of your memory, my ZX1 looks like this....

This should give you some idea of what is munching through your storage.

Thanks a lot. Just restored the original settings and got my full storage space!

Between ZX1and DX90, which device sounds more natural, transparent and clean?

Which one has a wider soundstage and good separation?

I use my ZX1 all the time and rarely use my DX90. I think that the DX90 is an excellent DAP, and a bargain at it's price.

Still, I prefer the sound coming out of the ZX1, going from memory, I do believe that the soundstage and separation on the ZX1 is better, the ZX1 does sound more natural, transparent and clean than the DX90.

Also, the battery life and UI are all better on the ZX1.

Don't be so cynical - the M8, other than clipping issues actually doesn't sound so bad - some times its about the tuning - which tech specs, or budget or whatever cannot show on paper...

That being said, for cleanness of sound, I do prefer the FiiO X5 over the M8...

Which - leads me to a question, maybe not for this thread, but - for somewhere - if Sony have to obey to the EU law, why don't they just follow the lead of other manufacturers like FiiO, and not include earphones in the package (maybe they do not anyway, please ignore my ignorance on this) - which would mean that they can ignore / flout the restrictions anyway...

Food for thought...

ZX1 doesn't come with earphones.

Received my clear Ray-Out full armor case. Very nice, it's clear and I can see the beautiful brushed aluminum. Looks super sexy with my carbon fiber finger ring. Only drawback was the ridiculous price, $54.95, way over priced... But not too many options.

Yeah they don't and it's weird that it's still capped. I returned my UK ZX1 for that reason and bought a Japanese unit off of soundblast75 and its definitely louder - I'd say that 100% volume on a UK one is about 70-75% on a Jap unit. Not much but that extra headroom can come in handy.

I had the same criticism many pages back and I sort of don't understand - when competitors like Apple allows you take tick an option in iTunes to disable the limit and Sandisk players (correct me if I'm wrong) allow you to change regions to get around it. Especially on an audiophile-grade product!
