Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model - Page 351

I've been trying different formats of music, I definitely can not tell between 256 and ASAP or FLAC. I listened to some WAV this morning, only for a few minutes, I did noticed it sounded louder. I've yet to try it with my amplifier.

is it my ears? or is the difference between the music formats that negligible?

Speaking of different formats, what's the best lossy format you've enjoyed?  I used to prefer Sony's ATRAC codec but after the minidisc couldn't find it on anything except their Japanese models.  That and the fact you couldn't convert it to any other format, had to rerip most of my CDs from scratch.

I'm completely inexperienced at this. I am not even sure I hear any difference at all between the diff formats, at least 256 and up. I heard the difference from 128 and lower, but now I am having a hard time determining what's what.

mhh most lossless formats are more or less the same in soundquality if they have the same bitrate and depth. Of course, most of the dap's today seem to run best with the flac format. Im a  mac user and I prefer ALAC, my zx1 supports it flawlessly.

Lossy not lossless, I keep my music in flac for lossless.  Lossy as in mp3/aac etc.

ahh, okay. I've never heard of lossy but I don't use lossy anymore.... Cant listen to it.

Yeah, guess there's no point using lossy anymore since we have so much portable storage.  I'm still disappointed that iTunes store still only offer lossy 256k aac.  i would purchase music from there if they offered lossless as an option.

You like the zx1 better than the AK?

I have to say, my cousin shared some of his 256 AAC and ALAC music library with me, and the difference was very difficult to hear on his high end speakers (B+W CM7). With my TF10's, the difference is even smaller. Maybe the difference will be more noticeable on extremely resolving detail heavy cans, but I'd say it would still be a pretty minute difference. A lot of my own library is ripped as 256 MP3, and I can tell the difference between those and the 256 AAC/ALAC stuff, but again it's only subtle differences, and if I were to do a blind test with music I wasn't familiar with, I'd probably fail most of them. That's just my experience though.

@warrior1975 i haven't tried it yet, it will be released in three days where i live and i get to check it for myself. I haven't really found any love for AK. Not worth the 1.2 K asking price.
