Any apps that run in the background will eat battery. But the biggest hog is the display on an Android device. If you don't have the display on a lot, you're going to find that the battery is pretty long lasting. I also use my Merlins with it at work, which means volume is usually at 50% or below. I got home today with 42% left, device unplugged for 11.5 hours, and probably a good 5 of that had music playing. You aren't going to have to hunt for ways to maximize battery life, it's pretty good.

Any update on Australian deliveries?

Is there a way to create playlists not from the device, but on my computer and then importing it to the ZX1?

Also, is there a way to sort via Album Artist instead of only artist?

I'm not too familiar with android since I've been mostly reliant on itunes/iOS. Any advice on how I can better sort my music?

Yes, I use Jriver media center. Create a smart list like Itunes and then sync it everytime you plug ZX1 into your PC. Works almost the same as Itunes but with more option like converting it on the fly to many formats.

Sony's stock player kind of sucks for sorting music. I also have a few albums where it just won't show the art. There's album art in every conceivable way, and a file browser shows it (ES File Explorer) but the Sony music player app won't. And There's no album artist view, no. I just go to albums.

Also of note, the search function will only search by individual tracks, not album, not artist, and if you start a song with it, it just stops at the end of that song. So the stock music player kind of sucks.

Admittedly that post was done almost 2 weeks and 26 pages ago - boy this is a fast moving thread!

What's the mac equivalent of that software?

And I do have positive remarks for the ZX1. It shattered my preconception that all audiophile DAPs were bogus. I felt like another layer of music had just been peeled back for me. Once I solve the ease of use issue, everyone should run alot smoother.

You can use jriver for both windows and mac

How do you get the playlist into the ZX1? Is there a playlist file format or a folder I can put the file into?

If not, the next best thing I can do is make playlists as individual folders, and just organize everything by playlist

In case anyone else is stubborn about using itunes, I'm trying out iSyncr and seeing how it works. It was brought up in this thread early on. Hopefully it works well.

Perhaps the walkman app can be loaded from an Xperia phone running JB 4.1.2? -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony

Some may need root privs though; is it possible to root the ZX1?

If you have the .apk you shouldn't need root privelages, I wouldn't think. Just allow installation from unknown sources in the phone settings. But that wouldn't play any files that can't be played in other media players on the device. It's not designed for anything over 16/44.1 is it? If that's the case, I just use Google Play Music, any way. I only use the "Music Player" app for anything I happen to have on it that's north of 16/44

Well the walkman app on my Xperia Ultra plays my Qobuz Studio Master flacs with no problem, but I am not sure how to check what quality it is playing them back at, as the device will likely limit the playback in my case, but ZX1 it may still playback as intended.

As soon as my ZX1 arrives I will be loading the Walkman app apk onto the device, as that is excellent.

Latest apk is here -> http://www.xperiaguide.com/2013/12/27/download-walkman-app-version-8-1-a-0-3-update-on-xperia-z1z-ultra/ not sure if it works on 4.1.2 though.

This is just another situation where Sony divisions don't talk to each other.

I get a parsing error trying to install it. Usual fixes for that don't appear to be working, either.

That's a 4.1.2 thing; it is supposed to be for 4.2 and above, so may not be a solution. Will try once I get my device.
