By the time ZX-2 with DSD who knows how forward we'll be.

It's like they are waiting to see what is happening when other companies are going ahead.

i am not sure that DSD is a must for me given that i already have nearly 400mbs in hi-rez pcm.  DSD should only matter on original DSD recordings or direct DSD transferred albums.  Most current DSD albums are a hi-rez PCM at one point.  Therefore, it should not matter much between the two formats.

Take big memory capacity
Drain the battery your DAP faster

There's evidence to the contrary.

http://old.hfm-detmold.de/eti/projekte/diplomarbeiten/dsdvspcm/aes_paper_6086.pdf ("The results showed that hardly any of the subjects could make a reproducible distinction between the two encoding systems. Hence it may be concluded that no significant differences are audible.")

And a lot of audio engineers have pointed out that there are several reasons that DSD might actually be inferior to multi-bit PCM. I suspect that the difference's aren't likely audible. But I've bought some DSD from Acoustic Sounds, and I look forward to getting something that actually plays DSD natively (perhaps the ifi iDSD) to do some comparisons myself.

Yes and almost NONE of the albums that come out are in DSD...so unless you want to listen to the same 10 albums all the time, DSD is really useless...that is my opinion of course.

The catalog is growing.

Darn it, I have to pick it up on monday >.<

I was listening to music with earphones... and missed the package door knock....

EveTan: I hate when this happens. I am sorry for you!

To my ears, i noticed a difference between between DSD on my AK 120 (PCM) when compared to  native DSD on the AK 240.

I noticed more clarity and a bigger soundstage on the AK 240 while listening to same song. By no means do I have golden ears but I did noticed differences.

Point being, native DSD on the ZX1 would have been more appealing IMO.

Maybe not a deal breaker as it looks really cool and I could only imagine how it sounds.

I'm going to Asia this summer and have a layover in Japan so maybe I can listen to it before I buy it.

As reginalb pointed out, DSD is being made more available on some web sites.

Oh man! That's the worst. Can't pick them up today? Worst case scenario, you'll be even more relieved to have it when you do!

true..but is it original DSD files or .....

master tape ...pcm...then....DSD files.  Seriously though I am a big fan of DSD, but only when it is an original DSD recordings or a direct DSD transfer from the master tape.

Yea, it's annoying how they didn't ring the doorbell. Nowadays they only knock. I can't pick them today since it's probably still on the truck and the post office closes early.

It's ok, just a few days of difference.

Forgot to give you the link http://www.amazon.co.jp/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?__mk_ja_JP=%E3%82%AB%E3%82%BF%E3%82%AB%E3%83%8A&url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=%E3%83%90%E3%83%B3%E3%83%8A%E3%82%A4%E3%82%BA+zx1&rh=n%3A3210981%2Ck%3A%E3%83%90%E3%83%B3%E3%83%8A%E3%82%A4%E3%82%BA+zx1
These items are sold by Vannuys via the Amazon as a portal. I saw price listings for shipping within Japan but no price listings for overseas. So I'm not certain. Maybe you can try a mock order to see if it'll go through.

Mimo manages to order a Vannuys case to be delivered to China. Maybe he could chip in on how he did it.

Meanwhile about the topic of DSD, although I'm a huge DSD/SACD fan since 2000, I must say that it's not a necessity. It's definitely a nice to have & I even talked to some US vendors early last year to consider DSD support in their DAC Amps but it's not a must have. I've read in other forums where members who may not have experienced DSD shun a product cos it doesn't support DSD and I'm kinda disappointed to read that.

Note that DSD doesn't automatically mean better sound. To me, DSD just means it's closer to mastering. If mastering is bad, well you'll hear that bad mastering more easily or clearly. Also not all DSDs are from hires recordings. I've been told (although not substantiated yet) that there are times mastering is done at a lower quality (say 48kHz which is just above CD) to save storage space then later upsampled & converted to DSD format. Sadly I've not found an example of such a SACD yet. So personally I kinda trust old mastering instead - pre-digital days. If it's more modern digital mastering then Sony actually makes hires microphones for DSD mastering which I understand aren't commonly used yet.

IMHO, I actually don't think I'd expect to hear much diff between real-time converted DSD->PCM in the ZX1 vs a pre-converted DSD->hires PCM that's uploaded to the ZX1. This will depend on what the real time conversion is naturally. However, my pre-converted DSD->PCM 192/24 seem to result in bigger files than the original DSD files themselves!! So I welcome DSD support more to save space in my ZX1 instead.

Edit: I just read what Purk said above. I echo his concerns.

Honestly not bad...but mostly old stuff...I buy tens of new albums and this won't cover it. Besides, thrice the price of a flac album...

I managed to order both Vannuys and Cruzerlite via taobao in China. To be honest, I love the Cruzerlite, not so much the Vannuys.

I think the Cruzelite a very good one too though I am still thinking of getting a black one after seeing your pictures Mimouille.

Here I took two pictures of my blue one for anybody who might think about it. It is not bad but it takes quite a bit of the classi look of the ZX1 away.
