Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model - Page 283

Alright, I have a 20% discount voucher code that I activated it without actually wanting it. So here is the deal, anybody here is a student? I'm willing to give the voucher code to an student... (I'm one and I like good audio but wallet is never willing to go with me, hence why.)

Anybody using swift-key on this player? It seems to turn itself off every now and than. I do LOVE this player but it behaves a little like a Diva, does it not?

You are trying to use this DAP as a phone and it seriously isn't.

Swift-key relies on being installed over the SD-Card partition, which is just part of the included flash memory. The player continuosly checks for music and does other operations when it reboots on this partition, hence swift key cannot start and android switches to the default keyboard. Same happens with live-wallpapers that access the SD-Card, they get reset. I suspect this is not only because the the SD-Card partition, but rather because sony also locks some options, so that when you reboot, the player starts with those settings on factory defaults. This happens with my xperia ultra, but only for example on the network radio used. I have to go from 4G to 3G everytime I reboot the phone because it "resets" itself. That doesn't happens with swiftkey though on this phone.

Well, sure not as a phone but I had liked to use all the conveniences possible. I hate the apple-looking keyboard. Swiftkey is so much easier to use.

I am not interested in sending messages or writing mails or something like that, but I would like to use it as a notification-device for all the small errants I should not forget. When this would/could work I had much less need for having my phone with me all the time. It is much more likely that I don't forget my DAP than my phone. (Or even in the house, when the phone is in my handbag, there are still thinks I have to remember).

That is one of the reasons for buying this DAP.

FYI you can delete songs from the player through the folders menu doing a long press. Just thought I would share.

Not a student, but be very grateful if none come forward. It would be final push for this over the X5 ;-)

To answer Kiats and OK-Guy. Ergonomically the pairing is great. The Hugo is recognized instantly and the ZX1 UI makes it a great experience. Be careful with volume, I almost pierced my eardrums.

Sonically with iems...well first of all I had no hiss with the SE5 and only a very low hiss with NT6, and NT6 is very sensitive. Then soundwise, I do not think the transport used affects sound. I am waiting for a better cable from DHC to avoid having 2 cables to connect the two. I terms of SQ the quality is incredible. You can read my impressions on the Hugo thread, but the keywords are huge space, great dynamics, airiness, uber detail, but quite analytical and unforgiving of mastering quality. You can hear the drummer scratching his....head.

I understand you :) other than those perks, the truth is that indeed this DAP was more convenient to use than my XT890.

Why is the output impedance so high? Don't they think when making these things that a lot of iems have low impedance?

Where did you find that published? I have searched this thread, the full forum, and Google. I've found no authoritative figure. I'll have one this weekend, though.

There's only been speculation about the output impedance but nothing posted. I do think that output impedance is really overblown however. The zx1 is great with iem's.

I thought someone earlier on in this thread confirmed it? I just searched for output impedance. Good if it's wrong though!

I use it for my SBH-52 bluetooth headset, so that music doesn't go through the headset and rather goes through the PHA-2. There is a link to the android store just a few pages back.

Hi Vect,

I've been using the cheaper SBH-20 BT headset in a similar way to your SBH-52 'walkman remote' hack. Having a remote enhances the experience immeasurably. Just wondering are you able to control volume through the SBH-52? Due to the way the SBH-20 operates remote volume control is non-functional.

Also can the SBH-52 display track info when music is being output through your PHA-2's audio jack?

Thanks!

Hey guys , the thread is heading towards noticing tiny details . May I suggest discussing a different topic to make things fresh ?

What iems do you think would match the classy ZX1 in both design and sound quality ?
I have looked into this matter for a couple of days , here are my personal pick (mostly low-mid range budget , I wont talk about their sound because I dont have any , but you can use google or head fi for more details , overall their SQ are great , especially for the price)

This is a warm IEMs that is quite a bang for the bucks
RHA MA750 / MA 750i ~ 130$

The design is almost a 10 to me, hadn't it been for the gray cheap-lookig rubber cable . I really dont understand why would RHA chose this color over the one that is attached to the housing (1st picture) Is it cost so much more for a paint job :(

This one to me is like the perfect partner for ZX1 , same classy , luxurious looking, but in a feminine way . So elegant !

Final Audio Design - Heaven VI ~ 400$

Available in 2 color , chrome or gold , personally I kind of find the gold silly , heaven V aging is much better

To be fair , Gold does look really nice , it just doesn't match our ZX1

Fancy ! Fancy !

If that price is too high for you , check out Heaven IV ! It doesnt sound as good (still good though) but at half the price
Available in black and white !
Heaven IV ~ 195$ preorder / 131$ on rakuten

My personal taste actually is more in favor of the Heaven IV's finish
________________________________________________________________________________

Still pricey ?
Heaven II ~ 135$

I heard they pretty nailed it with decent sources (good DAC,AMP)

The absent of the brand name on the housing is a big drawback for me . The font they use emphasizes the design philosophy of heaven series , without it , they look rather bland . However , they are still really fine .
________________________________________________________________________________

One of the best competitor to the famous Dunu DN-1000
Astrotec AX60 ~ 360$

I absolutely love the look of the cable , the housing , the plug . Seem really of similar design to ZX1 , but ...

wait what ?

What is this inconsistency all about ? Not just the difference between the logos , instead of the brushed metal look on the left , the one on the right is just plain metal . What the hell ?

You may think "What's the big deal? It's just the finish!" . I understand, but living in a neighbouring country to China , I know far too well their notoriety of "quality" in everything they make to raise many questions . Believe me, ppl in Asia hate China more than the Westerns hate USA and that is for reasons , many , many .
Yes , I get it "Too bad for you , every thing is made in China!" ,even the Heaven IV (FAD products only available in Japan, other countries sell it through import ) above has a big line "Made In China" in the cable, but there are always some thing fishy about many companies located in China with everything executed in China, which Astrotec here is the case . Especially after seeing this inconsistency , I'd rather gamble on the often-broken UE900 , mind you it's nearly 400$ investment , it's big deal .

Any one knows Chinese , I found this , probably something interesting , not that a fake production line or some thing , rather a thread that worth reading about what they do

To be continued with other iems ...
