I guess the line out has been correctly implemented based on your comment, so probably the best option.
Are there any decent WM-port cables; only I only can find cheaper ones (might be perfectly fine) on Ebay. The Fiio one is a better option though - their iPod line out cable was excellent, but I'd happily pay more for a higher end cable.

There are two options connecting via line-out... first is the FiiO WM-Port cable that you quoted, which is excellent... the second is via Sony-LOD (link below) using a mini-jack lead, I have a custom-made copper/silver mini-jack cable & a Magnus one, I can't hear any differences between the three of them in truth.

There is a slight difference between the two, using the ZX1/PHA-2 combo the music appears to have more air to the music & the bass seems a bit more punchy (better defined?), hth.

I'd assumed they'd keep the walkman app and just give it hidef flac support.

Perhaps the soon to be released Sony BRH10 Bluetooth Remote will give you the control that you need?

The app is not branded "Walkman" but "Music Player," although it looks very similar to that:

There is a second "Music Unlimited" app, to which I haven't elected to do the free trial, so I can't go in and grab a shot of what it looks like.

Again, thanks OK-Guy. Your help is appreciated. Think I will order the Fiio one in advance of UK ZX1 release. Keep checking, but still no confirmed actual date - to my knowledge, but at least the cable will be here ready.

Thanks, much appreciated, I now understand the difference.

Slightly disappointing though that they have split the apps, as the music unlimited standalone app is poor, but through the walkman app its great; but not hidef of course.

I dont suppose the 3 dots on the right menu has any option for music unlimited login?

Its sort of secondary to the hi def music capability of course, but its always nice to get the most functionality out of a device for the money :)

cheers

Nope, there's nothing like that anywhere in the menu, sorry. Do you like Music Unlimited? My Play Music All Access is the reason I took this over any other such player, although I'm still not sure that I'm going to keep it.

After ten iPod dominated years I love how I can say I have a Walkman again...

Everyone immediately assumes I'm playing tapes and they give me this weird look, somewhere in between surprise and disbelief. It's awesome.

Ok thanks for taking the time to have a look :)

Walkman app on Xperia's, MU is great and I got 12 months cheap when they offered it, more below;

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

MU: Great walkman app, poor general app, 320k stream, no slimserver support, was cheap at £3 month

Qobuz: Poor apps, flac stream, has slimserver support, expensive @ £20 a month

Spotify: Good apps, 320k stream, has slimserver support

Bloomfm: Good apps, 320k stream, no slimserver support

Still looking for streaming nirvana, so hence why I wanted the walkman app with flac streaming on the ZX1 :)

Hello all,

I'm not sure if this has been answered before, but I can't get the Sony NW-ZX1 to scrobble to Last.fm using the default Sony "Music" Player. I've been using Poweramp as my player since I can get that music player to scrobble. I've tried Scrobbler for Xperia Walkman application by Ambroos, but that application I've only got to work on Sony Xperia phones using the "Walkman" app; I assume this application is different since it is labeled Sony "Music" Player and has hi-resolution support. I've also tried Simple Last.fm, Scrobble Droid, and Wail Beta and haven't had any success scrobbling the default music player. From what I gathered from Simple Last.fm is that Sony does extensive customization on the "Android music player" that is not able to interact with the official or third party Last.fm application. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I was also wondering if anyone knows if the Sony default music player outputs 24 bit / 192 kHz files bit perfect via headphone output? I know it does playback of high resolution files, but I wasn't sure if it bypasses Android OS's limitations on FLAC of 24 bit / 48 kHz or if it downsamples. I know it shows the Hi-Res icon on high resolution audio files that play, but I wasn't sure if that was just a detector for high resolution audio files, not necessarily output of that bit depth and sample frequency. I was also wondering if Poweramp does downsampling as well? Thanks for your help!

Nooo , this will be my biggest concern if this is true . I mostly listen to music outside if last.fm doesn't work with this DAP , it will be such a letdown .. But it;s android , hope someone will finally work things out as an alternative , they already did that with some java mobile phones
Maybe you should try asking some android groups on last.fm , they might look into it

About your 2nd question , I think it does fine as mentioned earlier on some long ago previous posts , if my reading isn't wrong

So I am back and the player is here. (It came the day I left home about two hours after I was gone... live is a bitsch) Ordered through Sony Germany.

I compared the volume to my J3 and there is a very noticeable difference. In a  quite room I can't stand the J3 40 (highest volume). The Sony is loud but not too loud. I am not quit shure how to make a accurate compression. I'd like to find out which volume-number of the J3 matches the highest volume on my EU ZX1. Has anyone a good Idea?

I have to say: what a beauty! I am so much in love with this peace of technology.

Here are some things I experienced that Sony should fix / improve with a software update:

  • After syncing with the PC, a media player background process frequently hangs with 50% CPU use. It needs to be killed manually or the battery is dead after 4 or 5 hours. If your player gets warm, check for this process!
  • The Sony player app does not respect disc numbers. If you have a multi-disc album, the tracks are in the wrong order.
  • No way to select by genre plus album. On an iPod, for example, selecting "All" in the artists list after selecting a genre gives you a list of albums. The walkman software just gives you a useless playlist of all tracks for that genre.
  • Can't exclude song artists from artists view and only show album artists.
  • The folder browsing mode doesn't show cover art which is a pity because it is still the most useful browsing mode, considering the problems and limited features of the database-based browsing

The online store states 21st March-2nd April. But dunno if that's set in stone. Pre-order dates tend to move around a lot.
