Contact Sony and tell them your wishes. I for myself would like the responsiveness of the screen to be just that little faster, kitkat would offer and provide me with that. I think the stock player is 'stock' at best, it works fine although lacks features. I have purchased Poweramp to that end.

No you don't get what I'm saying. While I say there's nothing wrong with the player at this moment it still doesn't stop Sony adding some neat future features which I can't think of right now, that's why I say I wish they would commit to updating the Walkman app. Also as another poster mentioned, there could be some underlying bug that is yet to be discovered but may still need fixing.

Note that none of which depends on updating the OS in the end either.

If you are not happy purchase any number of third party music players, your little problem is fixed. If a problem does surface with the stock player Sony will issue an update. End of story.

You still don't get it - I am not dissatisfied with the current player app - I have no problems with it, however I would still like Sony to update it to add extra features which I cannot think of is needed right now which I may find useful when I use it. There is no conflict in my claim of me not finding fault with the app as it is right now and wanting Sony to keep improving it beyond my needs.

Also Sony finding a problem doesn't mean they will issue an update either, sometimes a software bug is so insignificant that it may not even cause any issues worth patching. Your reasoning is all over the place.

You first claim you have no issues with the app then demand Sony issues features that you don't know of as yet although might in the future. Right.

Teenager logic.

I don't believe there was any indication that nanaholic demanded that Sony update the Walkman player app with non-existent or 'yet-to-be-thought of features and functionality'

All that was expressed was interest and an openness to the possibility of said  'yet-to-be-thought-of' functionality or tweaks in the future which may or may not improve usability.

Here's a few off the top of my head:

  • The option to change the size of the album art grid when browsing your library by album.
  • The option to toggle text on/ off below the album art when browsing by album.
  • The ability to change the stock icons in the "My Library" menu.

** For the record, the above are just examples, please don't take them too seriously ;-)

My point is that it's nice to have options to customise software experience to individual taste.

Of course, software updates either for core media apps or even an OS update which objectively provide better performance in terms of the computing resource allocation and consumption are to be universallly welcome.

There is always the possibility of  'yet-to-be-thought-of' functionality or tweaks', this goes without saying, although he does sound unsatisfactory with the stock variant and I advised he purchase something else. There is no point in waiting for 'what if'.

Guys, give it a break.

I agree, be happy with what you have and perpetual complaining about what ifs is counter productive. I think the majority ZX1/ f880 users are very impressed and content—myself included—with the UI in its current state, whether or not Sony decides to update the software in the future.

Dissatisfaction with the stock music app doesn't seem to be nanholic's judgement in his original post about the ZX1 UI, but rather a fair critique of what it objectively is at the moment. It's fair to say that it's reasonable to be quite satisfied with the stock player as it shipped, but still point out some of it's weaknesses. Nothing's perfect.

Now whether Sony is going to update their music app is a completely different matter. Here's hoping the popularity of this machine and hopefully their other Android based player means they would commit to updating the app.

The UI of the app is pretty good, not quite iOS level good, but close enough. Though I don't have experience with the AK120 I can say it is much better than the AK100 I had before. Media GO for Windows is MILES better than the iRiver sync software though, so that's a huge plus in my book (don't EVER tell me to do drag and drop, I have over 400 CDs, metadata is the way to go so syncing software is very important). Note that it's not going to carry all your iTunes metadata over so there might be some initial teething issues if you rely a lot of iTune's metadata functions like smart playlist to organise your library.

Reads as pretty positive to me :)

Futhermore some users simply might not want to use a third party media app, and it's their choice/ loss if they don't wish to explore these alternatives. Switching to an another app might solve one problem only to bring to light another that wasn't there in the first place.

Whether or not these hypothetical updates and hopes ever come to fruition the possibility of Sony building upon what we have right now is definitely something to look forward to, either as a software update that adds functionality to the DAPs currently available or in a future DAP.

So it's not entirely pointless to discuss and talk about these 'what ifs'.

O.K. are we all happy now.

Screen mirroring would give rise to at least an update to Android 4.2.

It's my dream. smily_headphones1.gif

Does the ZX1 include the walkman app that is on the latest batch of Xperia phones? (or likely an older version being on older android..)

I ask as I use Music Unlimited and Qobuz and MU through the walkman app is very slick.

I was hoping it was the same or is there a separate sony app to play the flac files.

Been looking on youtube to try and see for myself without much success.

Cheers
