Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model - Page 257

Got the Zx1 a few days back and have been giving it a 48 hour break in before listening.

First hand impressions are :

1) UI is not bad could be better but no huge complaints

2) love the side buttons don't have to keep touching the screen

3) SQ is good - I think the amp section shines here. The dac less so (ie snr, detail, decay...).

My wishes for the next model:

A) native DSD playback
B) revamp dac section

Finally what is that accessory cable that people are using to output to the Chord Hugo? How or where does one order it?

Just wondering, how can the UI be better?

I have the exact same question.  Only iPods have better UI than the ZX1 IMO.

+1, I have had / have almost all "audiophile" players and the ZX1 has the best UI by far. So what could be better?

I don't even think other DAPs have a "search" function to dig through your library.  I absolutely enjoy the DLNA streaming via stock & 3rd party app.

@ Harmonix,

What is bad about the ZX1's DAC?  You do know that the ZX1 has a digital amp correct?  Essentially, the DAC and amp are somewhat integrated as a single module.

There you go - question answered! It's fine yes - is it the best no.

Didn't say it was bad - was hoping for a bit more but I'm comparing it with the Hugo - no comparison... also 3x the price.

I was hoping it would be much better than the AK120 but it isn't - it's better in some areas and vice versa. However the AK120 is double the price so no brainer.

You would have to explain this integrated DAC and AMP.

Decoding, noise shaping/filtering and pumping gain and current into the signal are all steps in the digital to analog chain.

the 'best' ui found on an ipod at the expense of sq. know what i'd prefer. exactly how 'best' does a ui need to be able to play an album from start to finish?

I believe Cowon C2 supports that feature.

It can be true, if the ipod is rockboxed :)

Class D amp. Skip the step in the description where it converts analog to digital at the input. I believe it streams directly to the amp stage. Of course there is still digital domain gain and other things going on like every other DAP.

Thanks I know how a class D amp works - had one in the late 90's a JRDG Model 12... still doesn't answer exactly how it's implemented in the ZX1 and I don't believe Sony reveals much in their website.

U & I both know the user-interface is adequate for playing music... though the millionth second delay when selecting album art to playing is frustrating beyond belief.
