Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model - Page 236

Is the digital signal coming from the WM-port, when converted to 3,5mm, acting like a true line-out from the DAC of the ZX1 so that it can be sent directly to an amp?

Also, does it lock the volume control?

Volume on the ZX1 plays no part in this situation - has no effect. Only the volume on the amp is active. I'd say it's a true lineout.

I'm thinking about getting the RWAK-120B to get a true balanced chain all the way, but I'm not really certain that it is worth the money, hence looking at other options also...

Why not just get an AK240 if you are willing to buy RWAK-120B?  The price points are close enough if you consider extra features you would get with AK240 - built-in balanced out, better(?) DAC chips, extra storage, network capability, etc.  I am sure Moon-Audio or someone will be able to put together a 2.5TPRS to Kobiconn connector.

I am seriously considering the 1plus2's, but seeing how expensive they are i might just wait and get either Roxannes or the Mentors, any opinions please?

I am selling, trading my 334's with the ooo cable as an extra to get new ones.

Thanks

I am having this combo right now, 1p2 and ZX1. I will say the sound signature is more on the trebly side.. esp when coming straight from 334. That being said, I luv this kind of tonality because I listen to soft volume all the time, and it excel very very well on that. Even at small volume, I could hear every single detail without much effort & even though its bright, there is hardly any sibilance.

With this combo you will miss the thick creamy vocal (the intimacy is gone too)... and the nice mid bass from 334, but what is gain from 1p2 is clarity, speed, brighter, lesser mid bass though bass is still good (just not as much as 334) & less prone to hiss. The 1p2 can be improved further with cable change (Occasional sibilance removal), and adding a comply foam really helps get a good seal (TS500). Personally I always go for a brighter TOTL IEM as its easier to adjust the tonality to my satisfaction level by taming it with cables and foams tips than making a darker IEM brighter. Its really hard to brighten a dark IEM without touching the EQ (and I am not good at EQ stuff).

I am also looking for a new CIEM. - cheers!

Many thanks for your comments Audiowood,

it sounds i am gonna give the 1plus2 a miss and shoot straight for the new ones after i gather some cash again, the 334's are so enjoyable and i prefer darker, but as soon as hear my Merlins i know that's my sound whatever that is, just need universal version, poss the Mentors, the only problem being  i tried their new 3ple universals and didn't think much of the build quality+the cable would cut off sound, the Mentors seem exactly the same housing and cable.. saying all that the price-sound q ratio next to the Roxannes would be very good!

I will also very likely sell the ZX1 PHA2 combo, been comparing with the Sansa (only coz i use it for jogging) and was shocked at the sound-value ratio here, not to mention the bulk to carry for only an incremental update in clarity and, well, everything, BUT..the big but is..its not enough when you look at the two, imo the Sansa is much more impressive being this small and around £20,30!

Of course the Sony is superior, just for me, listening on the go..not sure

Will likely try X5 next and if not happy will have to settle, again for Hifimans (tho hate the built, brick, battery etc. quality) , from what i remember HM 801 still sounds better to my ears and closer to that magic, analog, creamy goodness of old days..

No to the digitalisation is what i say!

Best of luck and thanks again:gs1000smile:

Well, I'm not sure that it's worth the money. For cans and amp I'm happy, leaving the source as the final upgrade for my personal endgame...

The Ak's will have to be really really good to be worth that amount of money. Also, it has to be good out of the box - I don't want to experience a trip like with the Dx50 where it's been a couple of months with crappy firmwares...

Sony should be able to have a product that is ready to go right?

I don't use backup, my boxes are checked, but I almost never turn on wifi. Google Plus helped lower my battery drain. Instructions.

I pm'd you on the topic, and I agree that the AK's will have to be pretty dang good to justify the price points.  Sony will obviously have a new product out every year or so, but I am not so sure if they will get a product out that will compete with the AK240s of the world.  After all, Sony is a mass-market company, and I actually thought ZX-1 itself was pretty out of character.  It is selling pretty well here in Japan, so I think they will continue to produce something similar - i.e. sub USD1,000 DAP with incremental improvements on the existing feature set of ZX1.  Will they actually pump in R&D money to produce uber-high end DAP (native DSD, double dac chips, balanced HO/LO)?  I highly doubt it...

Man, I need to get my paws on the ZX1. Enjoying the 240 right now. The thing is sexy.. Can't say the same about a DAC/amp/player sandwitch some people are lugging around.

Someone with extensive knowledge/experience on Android should produce a guide for novices(like me) on how to make the ZX-1 very efficient battery wise. All non music stuff turned off.

For me, I don't have any batteriy issues, I listen the whole day in office and always had some charge left. About the same as itouch..

Nice tip. Thank you.

AK240?  Explaination please, or are we joking?

I don't know about you but the ak240 design looks like a ak120 glued on an oddly shaped base.
Portability wise its harder to store in the pockets or compartments with limited space.
Sure it sounds good but at the kind of price, I personally expect more than just sounding good. smily_headphones1.gif

I know exactly what you're thinking but no, you can't use it to "beam me up", nor "set phasers to stun".

At least make the design aesthetics simpler or classier.
They were on the right track with the 100 and 120.
