Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model - Page 232

There is a slight hiss when power button is press, and then subside to barely audible when choosing song. The loudness of the hiss varies.. Loudest when power button is press and then there is a on and off hiss while idle. Good thing is it's silent when music is played, I know because the hiss is not there during silent passage of some classical music. But then again, I believe fitear is very prone to hiss... More so than other universal iem like sm64, k3003, 1p2, shure 535/846 ie800 that I have tested.

Interesting point. I assumed it was showing HR when it identified it was playing a high-res track (not hard to do), not because it had catalogued it earlier! You may well be right as the ZX1 etc does indeed maintain a catalogue with various attributes of the music stored on the device.

pity What Hi-Fi don't subscribe to this thread, there are some errors around Wi-Fi & hi-res I believe and I don't have any problems with the screen.

I'm in a cynical mood today... lets see if What-Hi-Fi can justify a £2k hike for a AK240 soundwise, I bet the extra storage will absolutely floor them...

true my friend true... they could always do a A&K, rush one out and charge £2k for it... you know the coo, memory-card slot + DSD playback = $biggabucks.

obi-Turok... you investing in a Hugo?

Thanks for this, I wonder whether the low volume criticism derives from the fact that it is a EU unit having the volume cap. Did anyone else witness this issue with Japanese units and relatively easy to drive IEM/headphones?

unfortunately I am not an early adopter this time round but I should have mine by March at the latest... I do know someone who has a 'rarer than hens-teeth' review sample and he says Chord have a massive winner on their hands, this guy doesn't post on Head-Fi but I'll ask him for links to his review, he's very thorough & someone whose views I respect.

not at all with IEM's, with the KEF M500's about a 5% drop.

I want to order a ZX1 and I'm curious about where you can get them in Europe and if all European models come with a volume cap. The only option I am currently aware of is to order the unit from pricejapan. Can you switch the language on the units from pricejapan to English or do they only support Japanese? Because I have absolutely no use for a Japanese-only-DAP. I hope someone can enlighten me here. :confused_face(1):
