I would expect it to be bit perfect, although the scroll down page on the ZX1 does not give sampling rate details when used over DLNA. The Synology is definitely bit perfect, so there is no downsampling from there, as DSD files cannot be read by the ZX1.

Just wondering if the ZX1 does but listening back to back the same 24/192 file....I am guessing not.

The convenience is incredible having access of over 3TB of music.

Edit:

I should add that the Synology Packaged Media apps does not play DSD files

I did mention earlier in the thread that I am a bit suspicious about downsampling. When you play the flac file directly on the ZX1 (or 886/887) it shows a little HR (hi-res) indication. But when playing via DLNA it does not.

That does sound like downsampling. This seems like an obvious question but are you certain that your server is setup to stream HIDef. I had my suspicions when it played 192 files wirelessly. Do-able but problematic more often than not. Will be nice to find out find out including single rate DSD. Sony may just allow that format since they are vested. Ss an aside this mimics my views on DSD http://www.audiostream.com/content/ayres-pcm-dsd-comparison . Not something to discuss here as comparisons can also be flawed and it will be better than 16/44. Even if the ZX1 doesn't stream full HD in all formats, it should still sound really good this way and it does mean you have unlimited tunes at hand.

Gavin, I totally agree on the server program. Best sounding SW DLNA music server I've experienced. I honestly only listened for a less than a minute compare last night on an old James Taylor 24/96 song after the Grammys. Chioces were limited  as it had only scanned a bit by then but it was an obvious difference. I'll set it up to scan multiple shares today after another look at the instructions so that it can see the 4tb of 24/192 I have on an attached HD but it's a no brainer sonically. Not up to my separate server but much closer than the Synology server that's as good as most others I've tried. Thanks for the tip.

How would the server side know how to "downsample"?

On the other hand why would the ZX1 downsample if the file is already in?

This is what I am trying to get my head around, too.

No information of files are carried over regarding bit rate etc that is shown on the ZX1.....

Servers often have an option of automatically converting to supported formats which can vary from inboard if chosen to be that way. Bandwidth issues can come into play. The option enable transcoder to come into effect when a file type isn't supported is not unusual. It probably can get that info via DMA. Perhaps the Sony just doesn't indicate that same way over WiFi but I doubt that's the case. I agree it would be odd for the Sony itself to downsample.

Indeed. I suspect the high res tracks are intact actually, but it is a bit concerning that the little HR logo does not appear on the display as it does when playing a file locally on the ZX1 itself.

I think it is a hirez file. Because the database on the server is not scanned, therefore the bit rate and depth as well as the HR logo are not available for display. I don't think sending hirez audio filed are a big deal given I was able to stream HD video in 1080 without a problem.

I just tried ZX1 on my Fitears and could hear very apparent background hiss.
Didn't expect the level of noise from a dap at this price range.
My iPhone and AK120 had much blacker backgrounds.
Nonetheless, I dig the build quality. UI is practically smartphone caliber unlike my AK which is terrible in scrolling and registering touches.
Can't comment much on the sound yet but it seems warner compared to AK120 with the bass having more slam.
Need to burn-in further and get acustom to Android, seems theres a lot of bloatware which I can't figure out how to uninstall lol.
Does Sony provide newer OS updates to this dap?
Jellybean is supposedly quite old now right?

Most likely its the sensitivity of the iem.
I could hear the hiss while booting up the device, and then goes away after it shuts down.

With GR07 MkII + ZX1, I'm also hearing hiss only while booting up, but it pretty much stays quiet after that.

Good point.
I don't remember if the hiss persisted while the device stays idle cos it was a short audition yesterday and i jumped right into the music immediately (which drown out the noise obviously lol)

Can't wait to get back tonight and listen more.
How does the finish hold up if i carry without a case?
Will the alu scratch easily?

When the device stays idle, there may still be a little hiss. To my ears, the background just doesn't seem completely silent like the AK100/120. Having said that, I can still definitely live with that idle hiss because it is really minimal.

Unfortunately, I can't comment on durability. I've only had it for 5 days and it hasn't left the house. I think a screen protector is a necessity, but I can't really comment on that either because I'm still waiting for mine to arrive from pricejapan.

I have the PRF-NWH40 screen protector on it.

It fits just about perfect except for the very edges of the glass exposed (approx 0.5mm)

The protector is quite sticky, so its not possible to lift it with scotch tape if you have dust stuck inside after pasting. And you have to remove the "Hi-Res" sticker before pasting.

But overall decent, would have preferred if there are 3rd parties that come out with their own screen protectors and cases.

I found the perfect screen protector from Benks:

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.8.8eJXlI&id=36657158313

It is mate and anti finger print, but you need to remove the High res sticker on the screen.

I am still looking for a case (desperatly though)
