The SCD-1 belongs in a museum for modern masterpieces. Truly special.

The ZX1 will not join that list although Sony will not sell that many.

Being a previous SCD-1 owner, it was truly a masterpiece as it was the first player to receive Stereophile Class A+ rating.  The build quality is even more impressive than the sound though.  I wish to own the SCD-1 again one day just to look at it & occasionally spin SACD discs.  The SCD-1 chassis is work of art.  I own several CD/SACD players and nothing comes close.  Maybe only some Accuphase & Esoteric very highend models.

I think Sony will sell many ZX1.  If iRiver is able to sell a boatload of AK100, I don't understand why Sony will not be able to do the same with the ZX1.  A stock AK100 isn't any better than the current crop of Sony Walkman when playing redbook materials.

Sorry, but will the NWZ-ZX1 have an English menu and be available outside of Japan?

If it runs Andriod then it should.  It will be a true shame if it doesn't.

I agree.  This looks to be a true flagship statement product - just like glory days of the D25 PCDP, minidisc, and the legendary SCD-1 when Sony was not only on top of its games, but defined them.  I wish I would've kept them all.

However, I am looking forward to some Hi-Rez content from the Sony music catalogs.

^I envy your Sony cans in your sig.  Keep them and never let them go!

Yes, the R10 & Qualia 010 are both remarkable products.

This is a premium product that only an audiophile would purchase who understands the concept of High-Rez sound. Combine this with that high price tag and the number of people willing to outlay drops to almost floor level. Don't get me wrong I wish Sony sells many, only for the reason that they bring out new and better players in the future, although I don't see it happening.

Over the years when walking about my business I see people using headphones and I notice that over 99% are happy with the rubbish (at best Skullcandy) they have. It is very rare for me to see someone with Senn or Grados for example.

It will be purchased by more people who do NOT "understand the concept of High-Rez sound" simply because it's the flagship. Jewelry buyers will always outnumber serious audiophiles and they will be more likely to tell their friends how much they paid for it than what it can do.

Being in Japan i will give it a listen instore, and also if its at the October Tokyo headphone show.

Hopefully its drag and drop, i had a sony years ago and the software gaveme a headache.

Does anyone know anything about the "digital amplifier" feature? I'm kind of skeptical about any digital amp. Isn't that essentially an equaliser? Also, is there a difference between the ZX1 and the F880 other than removed features and a larger storage? I could care less if my portable media player had less than 32 GB of storage. I don't even use 20 GB on my iPod Video, including HD files.

I'm interested in either model. Both have a form factor more appealing to me than the new iBasso DX50 or FiiO X3...

Amp != EQ

And look at this thread - plenty of discussion on how the ZX1 is different.

The ZX1 is a statement product - make no mistake about it. I don't think Sony really intends on selling a metric ton of these.
