I managed to find MATTE screen protectors on taobao...bye bye finger prints.

No problem guys.  I was able to do DLNA streaming since my 2nd day of owning the ZX1.  That was my primary reason why I'm so happy with this DAP and no longer worry about a limited on board memory and memory expansion.  BTW, that particular drive will run on battery for 8 hours.  It will also accept AC powered as well.  Best yet, I bought it from Newegg about 6 months ago for only $70 shipped.

There is no way you can connect it to ZX1 cable and not use the wireless system right? It has to work on wireless?

Yes, it has to be wireless only.  Basically, the drive streams content via its on board wifi to the ZX-1.  While doing a DLNA streaming, you will not be to get online.

So, the wireless drive and the ZX1 will be their own little network?

Yes, exactly!

all those efforts end up crippling your battery.

in the end we need that backpack http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/ces-2014-tylt-energi-power-backpack with the battery plugged into the sony and into a wireless hard disc, both talking wirelessly. easy and discrete ^_^

or buy 4 F887 (several zx1 might be a little expensive).

I get myself into starting to really consider those crazy options, when I was perfectly fine with my old 3giga S series 10years ago, happy with 5cds and a walkman 10years before, and couldn't be happier with 3 K7 10years before that.

I'm getting greedy

So, finally after a little pain, the ZX1 is finally rooted. However StickMount still doesn't recognise my USB Stick (that's stuck onto the end of the WMC-NWH10 cable). The USB mounting Android apps seem to like OTG cables but I don't know if the WMC-NWH10 is an OTG cable or not...guess not? Will continue playing around with it.

I have noticed that when playing Hi-Res files via DLNA, that the stock music player does not indicate HR as it does for files that are placed locally. I assume there isn't some kind of on-the-fly downsampling taking place.

How did you root it? I couldn't find any rooting instructions for the ZX1 so far.

That looks like an MZ-RH1 in the background next to the E10..?

Not sure as it is a stock photo.  looks like one though.

MD had even more bling than ZX1 in its time: Qualia 017!

Wow, keep them, you will only regret it like I did.    I got of the MD bandwagon just as the HI-MD format came out and went onto the HDD Walkmans (the HD3 & HD5's)

We are not there yet but at least Sony are now remembering their roots in design philosophy again and the ZX1 is not there on par with the E10 or Qualia 017 but can be safely put in the same hall of fame when we look back in the next couple of years.

My personal little fetish dream was to have Sony to my old MZ- E10 again and just dump the flash memory inside instead and put a touchscreen on the front which was the lid. Plus bring back the in line remote controls for them!!  (That would be a killer Walkman)

For now I drool over my ZX1 until then.

can the ZX1 be use as a USB DAC?

Thanks, got it. I've rooted all my Android devices so far (all of them Nexus models) but with the warnings in there about bricking the device (no recovery? no official images available for flashing from the bootloader via adb?) I think I'll pass for now as long as there's no good reason like working OTG support.

Same, I usually run all my android devices with custom roms and @ minimum root (like the DX100)....but I don't see a purpose yet on the Sony Walkmans (I passed on the Z1070 also).  Doesn't seem like there is any benefit except to freeze some small resource hogs via titanium and the ZX-1's pedigree is certainly fast enough to handle those small extras...proven by everyone here's feedback as well.

Great news on the DLNA streaming purk, that is a huge plus for me too!  Be awesome to have access to my library that's shared via DLNA/NFS on my network.
