If I was going to order a ZX1, based on the UK pricing I would be better to order from Japan to avoid the volume limiter.

As i said before, speaking from a long , long buying experience, it will be less than the price on Sony's website, check amazon in 2 months or so, they quickly go down in price, only if you can wait.

Cause i usually can't;)

the ZX1's tactile buttons are way better than on the F886/7, it has a stronger headphone post made of brass, double the memory and a case... the design is exquisite compared to the latest 'stamped on Darth Vader' helmet DAP.

Many thanks for that. It's a tough decision for me. When you evaluated the difference between the ZX1 and the F886/7 in terms of sound differences, what IEM's or headphones were you using to evaluate?

The other thing making me hesitate is the lack of DSD support which baffled me considering almost all the press releases said the support was there...

Does the ZX1 have a more open sound than the F880 or is it the same as well?

I have Wizard 5.0's (same drivers as Noble & Heir models) & KEF M500's... I'll have Noble-6's tomorrow but that won't help as I have no Walkman's or PHA-2 at present.

its standard issue... you will want to get a third-party case... the ZX1 is the one with the IEM's on top (click to enlarge).

LOL!

I do agree that the NW-ZX1 is, ergonomically, a stunning piece of industrial design. It just astonishes me how 'difficult' other manufacturers (even Apple) seem to find it to create DAPs with simple, easy-to-use-in-your-pocket-without-looking, control buttons. It's kinda hilarious when you think how much astonishing complexity, expertise, and thought goes into producing the underlying electronics, only to squueze it all into a barely-usable box with poor controls.  Kudos to Sony for absolutely 'knocking it out of the park', with the control buttons of the ZX1.

Anyway, your remark made me laugh, and I know exactly which 'helmet' DAP you are referring to - ironic that Vader's helmet is blatantly phallic and that 'that DAP' is being marketed to appeal to those who feel they need a DAP to help them feel less inadequate ("Be The Ultimate").

The case is pretty bad..actually no it's really bad and I wouldn't even use it. I'm hoping someone makes a nice case for them. With it being released in the UK and other countries soon I'm hoping a leather case of some sort comes out.

soon as I saw it I thought of Star-Wars (blame Xmas TV).. the Wiz said it looked like something that had been stamped-on so I thought hmmm 'someone stamped or DV's helmet' or it's his offspring in embryo form.

But the Sigsbsound extremely detailed and involving, no extreme brightness if thats what ur worried about,
They are not Grado AKG open sound, but they are my fav can of all times prob and it sounds great with anything really.

Should add easily driven by the ZX1 , like the Momentums
I have the SIG PRO myself, just wanted to know if the Zx1 has good synergy with them.

I don't think you'll find any problems , it's all good there;)

Does anyone know what's the deal with gapless playback on the ZX1? From what I read online, the latest Walkman and Media Player apps should support it but it didn't work for me when I tried it with an AAC album from iTunes. There were definitely audible gaps (albeit very short ones). I didn't even bother researching this before I ordered the ZX1, I thought that in 2013 this would be a solved problem...

One more thing: Have any English-language resources shown up for the ZX1? The best I have so far is the online manual (as linked from the shortcut on the homescreen) through Google Translate. I also found a working version of the Media Go software for Windows on a Sony website (the version that comes loaded in the ZX1 doesn't work on an English-language Windows). I tried some obvious variations of the URL for the manual to find an English version but didn't find any. There are also some apps on the device, including the manual for the media player software, which are still in Japanese when running the device in English.

(Sorry for not posting links to the resources I found. My last post with an off-site link is still awaiting moderator approval)

I believe it's only Flac (& hi-res), Atrac & Wav that are lossless... you can delete stuff be dragging it to the recycle-bin in the bottom left-hand corner.
