See my post a few pages back - I like it better than Touch/M8 and Touch/Apex Glacier. Sound is very slightly better and overall it's much more workable.

Is it possible that there will be a version with a SD card slot when it's released world wide?

Really doubt it. That looks like an error since the specs table has no mention of it.

Japanese models start with NZ whereas other country models have NWZ.. Would be great to have an external storage slot for non-japanese version. We'll know soon!

The premium Walkman® NWZ-ZX1 from Sony will be available in Asia Pacific from
February 2014 onwards.

That looks promising.

What language does SE Asia models come with.... English I'm guessing?

Just waiting to know if ZX-1 will be released here in the US. I'm in no hurry for the next 6 months or so and hopefully prices will come down too.

Hmmm, but the 'text specs' do:

"It is the largest capacity Walkman® ever produced by Sony, and also allows for storage of your entire audio collection with expansion via its memory card slot."

That's a pretty detailed sentence and hardly an accidental use of words or translation (like SONY would ever need to actually translate something from Japanese...not).

Add iBasso DX-50, MS-AK100, and Pico Amp/Dac combo to that list.

If this is true, I have to thank my instincts for not rushing out to Price Japan.

Since it appears a US release is not as "merely hopeful" as I thought a few weeks ago, I am now trying to convince myself that the 128GB storage max (really, about only 124GB when considering the OS) should not be a deal-breaker for me.  HOWEVER, given reports that the amp is on the weaker side, I just need to feel better about the line-out performance of the ZX1.  I can just buy that Sony cable (that terminates in a 3.5mm stereo plug) that someone sells on eBay?  And the sound quality & battery life hasn't been an issue for anyone when using an external amp?  At this point, I'm not all that interested in using a portable DAP as transport-only, so digital output isn't a huge concern for me since there seems to be no real complaints about SQ.

Well....I hope that is true, but still doubt it.  Translator and copy writer made mistake all the time.  I don't see other regions getting a superior unit than the Japan released model.  Highly doubt it.  We are very lucky that they are actually doing a released at all.  Also, the "expansion slot" was not listed under the spec table.  Have other tried the "DLNA" feature?  I was able to stream hi-rez content from my wireless hard drive without a problem.

So are there some good links to making up a good line out cable for the pieces needed for plug going into the Sony? I have the cable I would use and the 3.5 plug.

How does it compare to RWAK120?

It might just improve the DAC that is already working by default, Android tend to resample everything to 48kHz before sending it out, ruining it by quite a bit.

There is a trial version there. Please report back, interested to see how much the ZX1 support third party players.

There is no headphones plugged in my Z1 at any time. Actually there isn't* even any audio processing done there, volume control and all is done on my USB DAC/amp.  That being said so, I am looking forward to try them side by side when it actually gets to UK...

Rudi wasn't able to get it to work.  Has anyone else had success?

No the Xperia phone doesn't sound similar to the Walkman dap. Output gain aside (the Xperia phones have very low output), the SQ on the Xperia Z1 is very bad, worse off than ther previous Xperia Z. I will be forced to carry an amp if I'm using the Xperia phone with an IEM. The Sony S780 Dap is much better.

I have not heard the F880 but it will surprise me if it sounded the same as the ZX1 since it uses a different capacitor at the very least.

The new ak240 has just been announced. 265gb with 1 sd card slot

From my extensive time I listened to my over ear Sony MDR-7520 (essentially almost like the Z1000 in EU but better) and the MDR-R1 yesterday I have found that even these cans @ 24ohms the ZX1 does run out of road on the volume levels depending on the recording.

I am finding some older redbook cds are down a few db to most later cd's so where a normal redbook cd volume with the Sony headphones can be about 20-25 out of 30 on the volume the older lower output redbook is not quite enough volume and that's at 30 on the dial.

Same in general for high res recording are lower volume to most modern redbook cd's and is struggling for volume with just 24 ohm cans.

So am now concluding any headphones higher than 24 ohm would certainly need a portable amp for sure.

Sony after all did design this to be what it says on the tin - A "Walkman" so portable form factor has come first for use with iem's and was under the assumption they incoporated this to work with their range of current easy to drive cans they now produce but the different volume variations from different redbook cd's and on the whole high res files put even their 24ohm cans in possible amping needed.

Is one of those DSP effects on DB Power amp deal with this issue when ripping cd's does anyone know which may resolve mismatched output of recorded cd's?

This in comparison to me normally having my JH16pros around the 15-23 mark depending on the cds recorded output for reference also. All files are either in WAV or Flac.

On another note, If the non Japanese release of this does have a sd card slot I will eat my Japanese ZX1!
