Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model - Page 178

I had Poweramp on the F807, but the stock music player's sound seemed better to me. With Poweramp I noticed a loss of treble sparkle and overall spaciousness. So I uninstalled it. I've just stuck with the stock app, as it doesn't seem to drain battery unnecessarily.

I wish I could delete some of the apps like I can with my phone but I guess that requires root access. I can't wait for music to fill up as I'm going to try them on my UERM and then my FA-4 iem. My other 2 ciem are getting minor adjustments to fit so hopefully in 2-3 weeks I'll be able to have my full lineup.

I'll try the stock music app and go from there. I'll try poweramp at some point just to see if I feel the same about it or not.

To answer @musicheaven's question first...the wire I purchased was this :-

http://oyaide.com/catalog/products/p-4132.html

I thought the resistors would be the hard one to solder on but actually it was the wire. Stripping it was a little difficult but most of all it was easy to break (single core) and I broke the cables twice (R channel first at the beginning at the WM-port, which was ok, and 2nd was the Left channel at the WM-port -after- I had soldered on both ends, shrink wrapped everything, etc.....imagine the pain to have to open up everything again just to fix that up).

To buy this completed dock cable at e-earphone (without the Furutech FT-735 Rhodium plug) is Y15,000. In terms of parts to build this myself including the Furutech FT-735 Rhodium plug was approx Y8000, so I'm pleased :D.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Completed!

And thank goodness it works :-

That is some impressive work. Does it sound better/significantly better than the fiio wm lod?

Which one do you think has a more wider soundstage M8 or ZX1?

Also which one is brighter? I & rudi alike, we love bright sound signature.

I can do so, but what specifically do you want me to source the m8 with?

Using th900's out of my tu-05, with the zx1 as source into the m8, it's a bit bright. Which totally surprised me. The same combo, using the iphone 5s (alac files), as source was in no way bright. But quite detailed and pleasing overall.

The ZX1, headphone out to my akg 3003i's, with clearaudio+ enabled, has by far the widest, out of head soundstage I have heard. Quite addictive (for me), and the highs are certainly not attenuated, but not over-accenuated.

As for your final question, the brighter/brightest combo is zx1-m8-tu05-th900.

The smoothest, most realistic sound is iphone 5s-m8-tu05-th900.

The widest soundstage with uncanny instrument placement is zx1-3003i.

Thanks Woodcans, this is so awesome, the widest soundstage = zx1 & 3003i is what I am secretly hoping for since I don't need to add the M8 into the chain to do that & still stick with 3003i. this make the setup so portable. I feel like winning the lottery. HA! life is actually very happy.. Dang!

I am eagerly waiting for the ZX1 now.

Cheers guys. I don't know if it works noticeably better than the Fiio WM LOD as I didn't own a WM LOD prior to making this. To be honest I'm guessing it's not going to be that much better.

Has anybody seen how much 'space' the standard Android software is taken up on the player. It's nice people keep saying it has 128G although after the software and formatting, how much is there really?

about 123gb

Mine has landed for couple of days now. Absolutely an awesome device so far. Edge out the sound of my F807 comfortably. Also bettered my MS-Ak100 as well. I am able to stream hi-rez files from my wireless hard drive using the DLNA app. This player gets a solid A for just features alone.

Got my ZX1 this morning, been listening to it all day, and its safe to say that I love this thing! Definitely prefer the sound of the ZX1 to my previous iBasso DX50, the main thing I was worried about was the ZX1's power output, and with all the IEMs I've tried it does a fantastic job. Its already been mentioned before, but the ZX1 really does have insane separation and sound stage, much better than the DX50. And to my ears the sound is extremely uncolored, yet still fun to listen to because of the insane separation and detail. The bass is also done very well, it has much more texture than the DX50, and also extends much lower with authority. ZX1 is perfect for me, I really am not going to bother getting any other DAPs at the moment, this was not something I felt when I had the DX50, so it goes to show how satisfied I am with the ZX1 sound.

One thing I don't agree with is that people have been saying the ZX1 is bright sounding, I don't think so at all. To me the ZX1 is very balanced sounding, but not in a flat boring way, but a very detailed and large sound. The ZX1 just simply plays whats thrown at it without adding any kind of flavour imo, the bass can be monstrous if the music calls for it for example, yet still retains ZX1 hallmark texture, if you consider yourself a "quality bass head" like I do, you really should check out the ZX1.

BTW...the bass extension of the zx1 is reminiscent of the dx100 if not with slightly better definition. Beside the power issue to drive full size phones, I think Sony really executed the design of this DAP to perfection.

I have been trying to follow this but does the ZX1 have a true line out?

This baby's been hard to resist, but with the DX90 right around the corner, I'll just keep on watching.  Congrats to those that have one, sounds like a nice player.  The DX50 is treating me well for now.

Yes, it has.  It is available via WMport.  You will need to buy a line out adapter such as this.

Or a line out cable.

Is that the same as the 901 line out?
