Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model - Page 156

Yesterday I have tried the sony combo like below :

Source : Sony WM ZX 1as transport
Dac / Amp : Sony PHA 2 as pure DAC through line out
Amp : ALO RX 3 B
Headphone : Abyss 1266

Sony WM ZX 1 as stand alone DAP : SQ is transparent , detail , very clear and clean and very good bass impact and sweet clear midrange
I love this Sony DAP WM ZX1

Pair with PHA 2 , SQ is so bit different , warm , analog , but still has the Sony WM ZX 1 sound character above
With fuller sound , better bass impact and sweet analog and natural midrange

These combo has big power

Plus ALO RX 3 B :
I use the Line out from my PHA 2
These stag have better SQ and have more power , they can drive hard to drive headphone like my Abyss in Excellent SQ

IMO

Below picture I use as source : iPhone 4s with sony PHA 2 > ALO RX 3 B > Abyss 1266 headphone

I bought a WM port kit & some silver/gold/platinum wires to make my own analogue LODs. The ones in the shops were a little too pricey at $150++.

It's best to embed art into each track, very quickly done with free mp3tag software.

You can right click on a folder of mp3s, ALAC or Flacs, select mp3tag and it opens up with files showing. Select all files and then TAG SOURCES at top and Select Amazon. It then shows you album cover and you can COPY, close amazon, and Paste into bottom left box. Click top-left SAVE icon and all files will have embedded art, whatever software or media player you use. There are only a few free pieces of software I think are great, but this is one of them.

Thanks for the detailed walk through. Appreciated !

Wow, I am a DIY kit type of guy too. Aren't you missing a connector on the other end, not the one going to the ZX1 but the other end?

What type of wire is that (dark orange like jacket)?

I already have the 3.5mm plug from previous other purchases. I also have the shrink wrap too. That wire is a silver/gold/platinum but I don't know the percentages. Cost me $40 for that 1m length.

I am quite amazed to say that with the Spiral Ear Se5,the ZX1 really shines and even seems to rival with the best including the 901 with which I use the SE5 balanced or the Tera. The ZX1 is very spacious and just creates magic with the SE5. The Cocteau Twins really sound great right now.

Now you are talking, I am pretty sure the percentages of the of the alloy metal is going with the highest percentage to silver, most likely a 1% gold and the same with titanium. Never used titanium metal in an alloy cable before. What frequency band is the titanium working on?

For the connector I guess I got confused there I though you were looking for a USB type connector. Somehow I thought the LOD was outputting a digital signal and not necessarily an analog one like the older iPod 30-pin connector. Are you sure you can't have the connector going to one of your PHA2 digital inputs? Aren't there any digital signals out of the multi-pin connector?

No idea about titanium frequency band, etc.

Nope, I already have a WMC-NWH10. I'm building a analogue LOD for an external amp.

I don't have a PHA2, sure you didn't get me confused with rudi ;-)??

Its nice to hear that the ZX1 has qualities that hang with the expensive hitters like Hifiman and Altmann Terra.  You don't have to say the ZX1 is in a league above or with, but just say it has an appealing sound, and can save you some money too...

Yeah I think I did, Rudi has quite an arsenal of electronic devices, wish I could rack them up like he does.

Is this your first time? If you say yes, be ready for some soldering fun, those connectors are a ball to solder. The connections are so close they can feel the static from each other.

Please show us your creation once you are done. ;)

Question: Do you have the internet link to the wire you just purchased?

Will do when I get around to it. I've done my diyMod to my old iPod so should be ok with this. The WM LODs in the shops were just a tad too expensive and I do wanna try my ZX1 with my TUR-06 amp.
