I can't claim that you're wrong, but I must admit that I thought it was possible to listen to DSD signal in surround, and not just stereo ?

Hi, Rob49 -

I've replied to you by starting a new thread.

Well, my enthusiasm is definitely winding down... I guess the AK100MK2 is still on my radar...

Thanks.

Can't say much as I haven't heard the ZX1, but owning both AK100 and the Mk2 version I'm sure you will be happy with the AK either way smily_headphones1.gif

A tweet from Takoyaki-san, ZX1's backordered till Jan 31st

After a lot of consideration I've decided to invest in another Z1070... I'm not selling my ZX1 for the time being as I want to investigate the hi-res side of things in January.

There is so much that is right with the ZX1/F887 (the differences are very minimal) but I am still missing the SQ of my WM-Z... there is something going on in the lower-mids & the upper bass that make 'some' recordings almost unlistenable on the ZX1.. I'm trying to figure whether this is because it is a dedicated hi-res DAP & I'm only using Red-Book 'lossless' files has something to do with it... both DAP's (ZX1 & F887) are off to a hi-end Hi-Fi manufacturer in the UK after Xmas, they will advise me how to get the best out of these DAP's for my own listening pleasure.

The best results I have achieved using RB files is with the PHA-2/combo, obviously some people will have hi-res content available to them so will probably not have the minor SQ problems I am experiencing but I am starting from scratch, until I get that content onto these DAP's the jury is well & truly out.

Roughly 30% of my music is from the golden era of the 60/70's & this is where I'm having problems with the SQ... I don't seem to have any problems with well produced Albums, the ZX1/F887 handle everything with aplomb and is an absolute joy to listen to, I could not be happier... but there's a 'but' and I cannot ignore that.

The probable solution for me is to have both the WM-Z & ZX1(or F887), one for RB-lossless the other for Hi-Res files... I reckon I'll be more than satisfied then.

Has anyone tried transferring ATRAC files to the NW-ZX1 yet? this is what will determine if I go for a Japanese model or not. Am interested in 256Kbps and 352Kbps files, as it makes sense to not use space hungry FLAC versions of my 100+ Minidiscs.

Cheers

I only use Atrac-lossless... uses less space than Wav but is bigger than Flac hth.

Cheers, does it work as drag and drop or do you have to go through MediaGo? and I presume the supplied MediaGo worked on a UK operating system. When I moved 256kbps ATRAC files to my PS3 they don't play for some reason, but the 352Kbps ones do.

is measurement of dac characteristics possible by ppl like us??

just like earphones and headphones are objectively compared with graphs etc??

You've had less then a stellar experience using the zx1 through your tu-05?  Could you expand on this?  Not liking headphone out to the amp?  You feel you more of a true "line out"?  Or do you suspect just bad synergy?

I was also wondering if there was anything in the settings to make the headphone out more like a "line out" signal?

If you have 'SonicStage 4.3' it's just a click... alternatively you can drag & drop with ease... Media-Go does not automatically transfer files into 'library' from SonicStage... it will from WMP etc.

With Hi-Res files 'right click on file> send to Walkman'... or transfer via Media-Go... hth.

OK I'm outta here... laters.

Edit... you can download Media-Go (its free), it's pretty simple to use & you won't encounter any problems.

There's a guy, Markus Krauss, who did those. For some reason I can't get to loading his site.

OK-Guy, it's not Redbook vs Hi-Rez, it's the sound-signature preference IMO.

When the site worked, I checked the specs for the Walkman Z. The figures were very close to the DX100 (both from the line-out).

The specs include FR, noise level, dynamic range, THD, IMD, crosstalk and a few more.
