I'm enjoying it with the F887(ZX1) & via my PC... it was a keeper until the Chord Hugo was announced now I'm not so sure as I like their stuff (their Hi-Fi gear is up there with the very best, not to be confused with Chord Co. who are Cable guys).

This is my first DAC/Amp and I'm real chuffed with what I can do with it.

I am terrible because I tend to buy too many amps, they are great but not to my wallet so I need to keep things manageable besides I have a low cash level right now but if it's that great I can sell what I have to buy it else I would rather wanna pass. Thanks for the info! smily_headphones1.gif

That extra pin on the far left of PHA-2 should be meant for passing through power for the internal battery of F88x or ZX1. In other words:

Then PHA-2 is connected to F88x or ZX1 without an external power source, the Walkman could draw power from the DAC/amp.

When 5V power is provided for PHA-2, both the DAC/amp's internal battery and the Walkman's battery could be charged simultanously.

That should work similar to how AlgoRhythm Solo -db or Theorem 720 could provide power for iPod/iPhone. Basically PHA-2 could behave just like an external power bank in addition to DAC/amp. However, that might only work for F88x and ZX1 for now but not sure about anything else.

As usual it would be so much fun if someone could heck an extra special OTG cable for other Android devices so PHA-2 could also provide power for non-Walkman out there, LOL

Totally agree, I build such cables sometimes however the plug is really custom so you are more likely to find cables without that pin meaning no charging ability. Actually the older iPhone had a different connector but the power were on the main connector pins and not some custom connector one. I would be hard pressed to find such a custom connector available anywhere but from Sony. That means one needs to cut that piece, figure out the pins and wire a standard Android input connector. The devil is in the interface. devil_face.gif

no probs... I sold all my amps, WM-Z & some IEM's to get my new stuff... I'm happy with the end result for the most but I feel I'm leading myself into situation that I'll have to invest heavily if I go for the Hugo, I try to kid myself it's affordable but I'd have to sell one of my Walkman's, the PHA-2 & one of my headphones plus put a hefty amount of cash to get it... the end result would mean I'd have a couple of bits of nice gear but no money to get headphones... this is almost a deja-vu replay of 2months ago but as I said I'm happy so will probably stick with what I got, well maybe some Mad-Dogs come Easter (gotta keep up appearances & all that).

Can someone with an iPhone 4 or 4s and a ZX1 compare the output power between the devices.

I am leaning towards purchasing the ZX1, however, I need at least as much power as an iPhone for my phones.

Than you have nothing to worry about, as the power output from the 4/4S is only average at best for phones, and the ZX1 easily out class them.

I'm too lazy to read this whole thread but can someone here compare sound quality between the zx1 and the f880 series and the fiio x3

I have an x3 I'm just curious of how it compares to the sonys

Which of the above config is the best sound wise?

If I have other amps do I really need this one?

As stand alone Dap WM ZX 1 is bright

If I use USB dac with Hi Rest cable , WM ZX 1 sq is not as bright compare as stand alone Dap
Sq more natural and neutral and fuller sound , but the character sound from WM ZX 1 is still remain

I haven't try with line out or headphone out

IMO

I heard my friend fiio x 3 is warner sq than WM ZX 1
WM ZX 1 is more open , clear and clean and better separation and wider soundstage than fiio x 3
My personal opinion like sony WM ZX 1 more than fiio x 3

IMO

I have the X3 and the ZX1. I've not had the ZX1 long. I pair it with my K10 and for me it provides a slightly brighter/sparkly treble with less bass. (I have both DAPs without any sound enhancements). I would say the differences to me are slight but I prefer the sound signature of the ZX1 to the X3. The ZX1 also has the advantage of more sound enhancement/tweaks.

You also get all the usability that a touchscreen provides, and much faster file/folder navigation. As the ZX1/K10 setup is my commuting setup, this is a top priority for me, while others may not value it so much.

Also, I'm using the Music Player app that comes with the ZX1, and have just discovered the Visualizer mode and am mesmerized by the pretty graphics of the "Gate" theme. Sad, but true.

I like headphone-out it gives me a bit more control if I fancy the odd tweak, both are clean sounding.

I'm preferring my 60/70's music via the PHA-2 (h/o), it gives me a bit more warmth but it's still not quite up to Z1070 levels of satisfaction.

when I get home on Sunday I'll upload some SACD/Gold-Disc's and see how Hi-Res goes... I know you can upload CD's into Flac via Media-Go, anyone tried uploading a SACD etc. to see if it gives higher resolution with type of CD?... advice is welcomed.

I've been listening to the ZX-1 for a week now and I'm just going to throw in my unreserved praises for that little box. I thought it'd be a marginal departure from my F800 series and the Cowon J3 I normally use, but that little walkman is absolutely brilliant. Kudos to Sony - I know this discussion has been had in this thread before and it's relative but from my end, the ZX1 is brilliant value for money. And the fact that my relatively untrained ears can hear strong - and improved - differences with the F800 series is a testimony of the good work Sony has done.

Listening to a high resolution FLAC ripped from the Dark Side of the Moon SACD and it's... you know... very pleasurable.

Now for the PHA2... Apparently it's been delivered to my place today!!!!

yaar,u are missing the point here.

if we want to say its a value then u need to compare this to dx 50 and fiio x3 atleast.

sony one costs 750$ but comes with way way more features than dx 50 and x3 so the price and feature ratio balances out wrt to x3 and dx 50.

i won't say comparisons with a bit cheaper colorfly c4 as that thing can do nothing but play music so an unfair comparison.

but needless to say i am thrilled that sony zx1 has made ppl happy!!
