Fortis lives in Essex and he has the ZX1 & a Oppo, pm him he might let you demo it... love is in the air (I is the matchmaker).

Fortis, your country needs you!

I am off to Tottenham Court Road and see if I can get any info there meanwhile.

you're probably right on that score and I've always loved lukewarm & detailed... things have settled down a bit and things appear to be less peaky, had 6hrs with the F887/PHA combo (h/o) last night and was pretty much blown away, I've got a touch of warmth I was looking for with 60/70's music so I'm happy, I'm yearning my beloved WM-Z a bit less every day... all of this might be in me head as it could be I've got used to the sound... Van Morrison's 'Astral Weeks - live at the Hollywood Bowl' was outstandingly good.

Anak... your confusing me with all this shape malarkey, mines oblong.

I know that Sony will (hopefully) bring us even something better/tweaked for the other parts (esp. US and Europe).

How do I know? Sony is learning.

sony is learning nothing in my opinion

i own walkman e474 and clip+.

clip+ puts 3 times pricier walkman to shame and that not a good thing at all.the other thing is the built in amp of zx1.For paying such a premium price and considering the already large size of zx1 it will be a shame if we need external amp. Also f886 sounds worse than x3(albeit not by much).

u cannot have both ways,if u wanna go commercial go ipod way but if u want to attract audiophiles then get the sound right, android has no value in a walkman as most of us willing to spend 1000$ on a player have already got better smartphones.

They should have stuck to their non android interface like older walkmans and just added wifi and bluetooth.it would have saved the battery atleast.

I doubt the sharks there will have any useful info for you just yet, re' availability, but nonetheless, I'll be interested to hear what you find out there.

(I did buy my original D-777 there, back in the mid 90s, when almost no-one else in the UK had it for sale, so one does sometimes get lucky there)

My biggest gripe is the zx1 and pha-2 pairing though. I would assume since the output to the pha-2 was digital that at least any sound adjustments made to equalizer, clear audio, and etc would take affect. However that is not the case, any changes made only effect the output from the headphone jack. I find this to be disappointing as I see this as a major let down.

You only get control of ZX1 by using headphone-out with the PHA-2... if you use USB or line-out it's under the Amp or DAC/Amps control as the ZX1 in effect becomes a source (same as any other combo), think of a dedicated CD-transport player into a DAC/Amp on a hi-fi system.

the F886/7 doesn't sound worse than a X3, the presentation is different is all... if you don't like the F886 you'll have no hope with the ZX1 and you can take that as an absolute fact (feel free to quote me).

it has the same dimensions of the F887 and sounds pretty much like the ZX1.... hope that helps.

joking aside... try using google-translate on the Sony-Japan website for the ZX1 and your local Sony region for the F886/7, most of the specs can be had that way.

While you may be right, Sony's history is to make things as they see fit and reinvent the wheel for better or worse and it's gone both ways.

Sean, I bet the ZX1 is just a bit dry which gives you that impression of being slightly V shaped in sig though I'm sure it measures well. Again, a preference thing.

Sardar. Naming the bits they use would be meaningless as they are proprietary. Specs can also be misleading. I would simply assume that the numbers are competitive with other top players and rely on an audition for qualitative assessments.

I can not argue with you, spot on.

Sometimes but not always.

I still have my Z, and many ask me why do I still have it.

Well I like how it sounds, and got enough power to drive my DT770 LE like a dream.

The Zx1 can drive it , and do sound nice but more power and Bass are needed to make it shine, this is where the Z comes.

The X5 compared to the ZX1 is a wreck, but it might sound better and it might have stable bug free UI, but still only limited to 128GB , as there is no microSD cards higher than 64GB (if you find one with bigger capacity ts a fake)

yes i know we all love sony but of late they have been in relative decline and it pains me.

just 2 months ago i had returned xba h1 due to subpar performance relative to price they commanded.

i got walkman e474 in exchange as it cost the same 110$ for 8 gb but i was numb after comparing that to my clip+.Eventually i gave the walkman yesterday to my brother as i clip was better.

all in all they need to up their game if they are serious,,u can't bank on sony name for ages.

imagine where will f886 go if x3 and dx 50 had interface like e or s series walkmans(non android ones)??

also putting in weak amp(do u now what it is by the way??power etc) in x1 is a grave mistake considering x1 is fairly chunky.
