Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model - Page 102

i think if sony sales (and future possible competitors) go up, astell & kern would find a more serious competition backed with wider marketting options (of sony say), and probably be forced to price their daps in more sane levels.

I wouldn't call me a 'audiophile' as I can't stand neutrally based systems that have no soul.

Isn't DN just to normalize volume differences between tracks? My impression is that this setting just lowers the max volume. Wouldn't call myself an audiophile either though.

DSEE seems pointless for lossless as it just tries to "recover audio data lost in compression", though I usually go with it on anyway.

I usually go with Clear Stereo and Clear Bass on or with all the audio enhanchements off altogether.

Clear Audio isn't available on my Walkman Z or F, though it is there on my phone Xperia Z and seem to sound pretty good (it disables / overrides all other enhancements though, so you can't manually set EQ, Clear Bass or Clear Stereo with this on).

Also read that someone here was going to give impressions on the ZX1 together with MDR-Z1000. Looking forward to that. I also use the MDR-1RNC (not very satisfied with sound on those) and the MDR-XB910.

I hope an early adopter will be trying to pair this with a Cypher Labs Thoerem, and/or CEntrance HiFi-M8.  It should work with both, but I wonder how cooperatively?

Hi Guys,

This may be a silly question and may have been covered elsewhere here (that I Missed).

If the ZX1 has Wi-Fi and runs on the Android Platform would this mean that you would be able to use the ZX1 for music streaming services (specifically Spotify).

For me a DAP with 128gb Storage, that plays up to 24/96 music files (FLAC & ALAC) and would allow me to access Spotify via Wi-Fi would be perfect for me. I could live with a reduced storage capacity if I can get access to Spotify :-)

Cheers

Sony coming out with their most expensive DAP ever isn't going to make AK prices come down. All the boats are rising with the tide. If you like the Sony, you probably have AK and Hifiman to thank for it.

I don't see why not. The unit is a full android device in the end. With the play store installed you can even use third party music player on the device should the sony player not satisfy you. Although whether the physical play/previous/next buttons work with other apps is another story. I'll definitely check that out to see if possible.

Everything seems fine with this player, also I like the fact that it doesn't cost an arm and a leg while sounding high end. A nice rival against HM901, AK120 etc. However, as a god d**n SE5way owner, lack of power makes me think. I have these monitors, I like these monitors, they are truly one of the best things a money can get for you, but if you have them, you better drive them properly.

Mim, I need your honest opinion man. Tell me if it can drive SE5way at least as good as AK120 or maybe even better (I mean when you got your unit). I know there is no chance it can come close to HM901 but I don't need that perfection level, considering the cons of HM901.

Sony, my old friend from childhood era, welcome back to our world.

I will be testing mine with the m8 soon.

BTW, just a mini update, burn in seems to help with this player. I'm getting a somewhat more depth to it and it's slowly gaining a little more finesse.

Meanwhile in other aspects of operation, the battery's been running 12 hrs and is still going at the moment.

Can't argue with that... compared my Z1070 to a AK120 and decided there was no improvement (to my ears), so decided to stick with Sony.

For less than the price of a AK120 in the UK I got the F887, PHA-2 & ZX1.

Was just about to ask about battery life, thanks.

The only thing i don't like about this player is the "busy" looking screen, obviously nothing to do with sony, but android, its just way to many little thingis on my screen, but maybe in real life its ok

How fine are the volume steps on the buttons? 335DW would be a good reference on it, on my Z1 the steps are too big for my 334.
