Ah, that's reassuring... I thought it'd be designed as an average player with sub-par sound, but platted in gold.

AK100 = $X
AK120=  $2x
AK140= $4x

Why not , as long we keep buying:confused_face_2:

How is the quality of the back cover. Does it feel like cheap rubber/plastic?

I'm seriously rethinking about buying another WM-Z, love that Sony it has a touch of warmth that I love & miss.

I'll let you know in 3-4days, in truth I don't expect much difference if any.

If Clear Audio (at least in this product's implementation) is gimmicky, then so would ProEQ in the AK120. The question is what are we listening to these days? Software DSP plays a significant part of the overall sonic result and at times i feel it affects sonics more than the "hardware" DAC/OpAmp (or discrete) or cable choices..

I wouldn't bother with Clear Audio or Sound Surround it brings nothing to the table, you may want to try this out, go to 'Sound Enhancements' in Music Settings tick the following DSEE & Dynamic Normaliser, this should give your music more body and soul and improve the dynamics. I personally leave the equalizer alone but I do have a penchant for using Clear Bass which is a absolute hoot when used with certain music, you think the bass is good now wait till you've tried that (it doesn't interfere (muddy) with the other frequencies).

Personally I found my Z1070 to be a match for the AK120 using Red-Book Lossless, the AK120 was better using Hi-Res but there again you would kinda expect that (the WM-Z can't play Hi-Res).

I've been using the F887 & PHA-2 combo a bit more, apart from adding a touch of warmth and a even deeper bass I really don't see the point as I prefer the F887 on its own,. Out of a PC the PHA-2 is the dogs but bear in mind this is my first DAC/Amp and I ain't got a lot of Hi-Res music.

I don't think Clear Audio+ is that bad. Kinda fun actually although I've been very happy without it. BTW, changing topics a little, I'm listening to Toto's The Essential with my Tralucent Ubered 1Plus2 and I find it kinda hard to go back to the AK120 as I'm enjoying listening to the album off the ZX1 quite a bit. Maybe it's the bass that works well with this kind of 80's pop/rock.

^^which one do you prefer listening to this album ?

I never thought the ZX-1 would beat the Hifi mans in terms of SQ, to my ears Teras and Ibassos dont even come close. The problem is HM's are bricks and not that well made,not to mention design and UI.
But one day, they'll get it right..
