Why???

Simply when it is in a pocket it was in a good place as on the X1060 for pocket use and with the ZX1 been a bit bigger it will be a a bit harder to get to those buttons down the side in a jean pocket.  I realize with the ZX1 having the bigger amp this would of been harder to do with the hp out having to of been top also to ideally do that configuration..  The top of the ZX1 looked a nice place to have those buttons.

I currently own a white z1070. However, once the zx1 is released, is there any point keeping it as the zx1 is pretty much better in every way except NC and HDMI?

Will the z1070 be sought after once the zx1 is released?

I have a red Z1070 and am still holding on to it b/c of the HDMI output.  It serves as a great digital transport feeding my NAD M51.

I just pre-ordered the ZX1 and I'm quietly excited to try that baby. I have the 807 and various Cowon players that are all nearing their end... Hopefully will get a B&W P7 to play with it at Christmas... Really looking forward to mobile sound bliss...

yes, I will stop the mp3 business  if I am the CEO of  SONY, they are too big so the mp3 means nothing for SONY. even they take all the market share in mp3 market.

I daresay the irony of this statement is completely lost on the author, I prefer products I pay for to work, I prefer not to be used as some group beta-tester.

Just got the Sony MDR-10RC Hi Res Headphones, they are much better tuned than their bigger brothers, too much on the bass side, but a lot of definition and clarity and appart from the bass, almost perfect tuning for such a portable, small and light headphone.
Sony is clearly going the right way in the sound department and their biult quality is great too.
Can't wait to pair it (tame the bass) with the ZX-1:)

Without trying to go too much off topic, that is nail on the head, Microsoft...More bugs than a Disney cockroach park.   They lost the plot a long time ago, scandalous their products make it to the end user the way they do.

That is one company that has no real compass, vision or real leadership currently.  Shame as they do still have the core basis of a very good product still which is been slowly destroyed from within.

Interesting, I have the MDR-1R and have to say i was disappointed in them compared to my Sony MDR-Z1000 & 7520 studio cans.  Are you referring to the new Mrk 2 model in the MDR-R1?

Be interesting to see how they are powered from just the ZX1 without an external amp.

I purchased the MDR-10RC the day they came out. ( started a thread about them ) I also have the far more expensive MDR-1NC. I tend to use the 10RC's more. The detail & clarity is excellent, mixed feelings about bass, depending on what you're listening to ? I'm looking forward to pairing them with my new Hi Res player, ( hoping ZX-1....if finances allow ! ? )

You've pretty much nailed the differences between the two, though it is not a massive difference more of a tightening-up, though the bass is still as deep as the WM-Z.

I found that using it with the PHA-2 via the headphone-out was a absolute hoot in the bass region (think turbocharged WM-Z and you'll get my drift), though I do find myself preferring to use the F886/7 on it's own for the most, it's addictive but so was my beloved Z1070, gotta love these new Walkman's.

I haven't got the Hi-Res files to make any real judgements using the F887, there is a improvement and I can only describe it as this, using with 'lossless' files the sound quality is excellent, up there with the best (no change there then), in Hi-Res it is on another level everything is 'crystal' clear. There is a 'but' pairing it with the PHA-2 as I don't see any real benefit apart from a deeper bass experience though you really wouldn't say the F887 is bass shy because it's a hard hitter in that region (on par with WM-Z). I shall be having a lot of fun with 'clear bass' on the F887 when paired with the PHA-2 via the H/O, time to upload some old Scientist albums, dub-reggae hear I come.

Personally I don't think you see much difference if any between the F88x series and the ZX1 sound wise, it's hard to see where the improvements will be made, I'll be happy no matter as I just want my sexy-beast.

10 days to go..... lets get ready to rumble !

GIven the price of the ZX-1 I would hope there's an obvious difference ! ( rather than just paying for the extra space. )

For those that have ordered, ( from Price Japan ) could you please give feedback on whether you've used DHL / EMS and did you pay by bank transfer or Paypal ( I've noticed there's a 3.5% charge via Paypal ). I've never done a bank transfer.

Rob, I kid you not it'll be hard to see where the improvements will be made on SQ given that both use the same DAC/Amp, the bulge is for a different battery on the ZX1 and you'll need that extra bit of battery life when playing Hi-Res files, the gains in memory are to accommodate the larger capacity needed for Hi-Res recordings, that's my surmised take on things.

The 3.5% Paypal charge is a standard rate for a 'goods' purchase, it also covers you for any claim should your items fail to arrive. I never had any problems using EMS for delivery for both my F887/PHA-2, it takes 2-3 days longer because of Royal Mail's slow Customs procedure. We've gone with DHL for delivery with the ZX1 mainly because three units are being shipped together. Both offer 'tracking', DHL's is in real-time. Price-Japan will do a deal on Customs but you have to ask, agree the amount before paying, they agreed to put a Customs-value of $110 (USD) on each of our units which will equate to £30/40 in taxes & handling (for each ZX1), hth.

ps... for peace of mind I would go with DHL for delivery.

Thanks for that feedback, NG. ( I know you've posted previously about what you've ordered, and how. ) I sent Price Japan an e mail asking for advice.

Obviously, if I don't agree a customs value, like you suggest, then I dread to think of the customs charges on an item that will be in the region of $800 + !! ( I certainly don't want to end up paying another £100-£200 for this item in customs charges !! )
