I haven't had a D777 DBB version so can't comment with 100% accuracy, but in a literal sense, the only real difference should be that the DBB version has a DSP chip, whereas the MegaBass version has a standard chip for bass boost (Digital MegaBass on units like the D-E905 and newer is boosted on DAC). The DSP version should sound fuller overall, with less emphasis on boosting the treble.

I think my sister has that, I better go track it down and see if she isn't using it and then ask her if I can use it (I haven't seen her use it in a long time). I wonder what sort of condition it is in... my sister is not an audiophile at all (what can I expect from my 17 year old sister ).

I have both the dbb and the mega bass version.

the dbb has got a "darker" sound, more bass. Actually i prefer the mega bass with my ms-1's..more treble and less "punch".

too bad my dbb skips a lot..have to fix this one

I also have both the DBB and Megabass versions of the D-777. After a side by side comparision I found that the DBB version produces a slightly more powerful bass response than that of the Megabass version. Along with delivering a bass with slightly more punch, I also noticed that bass was also slightly tighter than the Megabass version. The bass from the Megabass version sounded warmer and not as full as the DBB version. Besides the difference in bass response between the two versions when boost was activated, everything else sounded similar sonically.
The DBB version was available in both Japan and US versions (I have both). Although by no means rare as it is being touted on some Ebay auctions recently, it can be found. Just that it's not as common as the Megabass version. There is no difference sonically between the Japan and Us version of the DBB D-777. The only difference between the Japan and US versions of the DBB is on the back of the Japan version where there is the sticker containing the specs for the PCDP, an additional sticker written in Japanese was affixed to the player.

I've been sweating looking for the same DBB version like yours.  Let me know if you want to sell I'll buy it at reasonable price.

Will you sell the DBB version to me?

Sorry, no plans on selling it. I take it out of storage and use it on occasion.
