I have Brainwavz R1 and enjoy the sound but would prefer a little more oomph in bass department.
Can anyone advise me on pros and cons of each of this... And R3 is not for consideration... Way over my budget.
Thanks.

More bass oomph than the R1? I guess none of these will fit the bill. The S1 might give you better bass quality but not more oomph.

Maybe the Velodyne vpulse?
Cheaper sets would include the JVC FX1X(and the likes), but the R1s are better in my opinion.

PS: I know music is a subjective experience. But, do you feel the bass on your R1 isn't strong enough? Just to rule out the possibility of a manufacturing defect, as they are bass heavy phones,

What do you feel it yould be a better option for controlled bass, good instrumentals and vocals and an overall warm signature? S1 or VSD1/S?

I found the S1 to be less grainy sounding out of the two IEM's. But the S1 does need some use it burnin time for the bass to sound it's best, out of the box the bass is a bit over powering.

I guess it is gonna be a close call either way... Brainwavz and vsonics are doing a really good effort on the low end market.

They are both excellent IEM's for sure. The other differences between the two are:

S1 is designed for over ear.
VSD1 is designed to hang down from ear and has the adjustable nozzle. You can wear the VSD1 over ear but have to reverse left and right to do it.

S1 has less microhonics due to it's over ear design.

must disagree. i find impossible to wear VSD1 cable down

I also had issues using them hanging down. Unfortunately that was how they were designed. To use them over ear you have to reverse left for right which I dislike doing. To me it was baffling why Vsonic made them the way they did and not just make them be over ear with the channels properly aligned.
