More precisely, I would like to know if it offer a real USB-Out that can be used, at 24/192 kHz without Downsampling, with another external DAC ?

if yes, then What cable to use  ?  A Sony proprietary USB cable ?

The NW-ZX1 will be using a special USB cable, it comes with the PHA-2. If you watch the video and freeze it at 3:58, the NW-ZX1 connects to the left connector, it has a locating pin to stop you using the other micro USB connector. Since the connection is digital, there's no reason to downsample, the PHA-2 can take 192/24 easy.

There's really not much extra to go DoP for DSD files with the NW-ZX1 , the PHA-2 can decode DoP or native DSD.

I am interested in it since I am looking forward to learn more about both of them. If ZX1 can make me buy it, surely PHA 2 will follow it later on. Gotta read the thread later on when I have time.

Mine arrives Thursday should be interesting pairing it with the F887, I'll try and fathoms things but I only have two HD-tracks that came with F887, the rest is red-book Atrac-lossless. I'm not re-ripping to Flac anytime soon.

Do you mean ALAC?

nope, Atrac Advanced-Lossless - Sony's own music program (bigger than FLAC, less than WAV in size).

I'll change to FLAC after Christmas, re-ripping music is not my favourite pastime.

Yeah ATRAC is more of a MD thing.

It has arrived, the PHA-2 is extremely well made, best out of the amps I've owned, it's better than the photo's, comes with some nice bits as well, it has power but I'll think I'll give it a good charge for about 12hrs or so.

Yeah, I was familiar with it.  I just figured you were referring to ALAC, since you don't here much mention of the other these days.

I seem to be having problems with the PC/USB, think I've installed drivers. When I try to play music via PC over USB nothing comes out of headphones, everything is correctly switched etc., any ideas anyone?, cheers.

You also need to change your default playback device to the PHA-2.

You're a superstar, many thanks. :beerchug:

Quick review - sounds as good as it looks, works with WMP & SonicStage, seriously impressed with the SQ.

Glad you like it, as I do plan on getting my own later. FYI, there is a quick app called SoundSwitch that will help you bind a key to switch between 2 playback devices.

Finally, I was able to order one. I must say that pricewise the PHA-2 is steep. However, I am looking forward to it.
