Well, if so it's not a good idea to buy it. I wont to buy it but from now on i'm affraid to do it. It's a lot of money to throw away.

I have no 'tac' thingy on either my F887 or ZX1

OK-Guy: I have a Z and was wondering how they compare to the F887?

the WM-Z has a wonderful warm detailed presentation that I love... the F886/7 (ZX1) are a bit of a shock to the system... there's more detail, slightly better bass depth but you do lose a bit of the warmth of the WM-Z, some might not like it.

It's most likely headphone specific, there was no "tac" with the included headphones, but there certainly was an annoying as hell "tac" every ~2 seconds even at 0 volume with my eb-50, might be due to their high sensitivity.

Yes, considering there's no room for anything other than the smallest SMD components, it sounds fairly decent. The X3 is much chunkier by comparison.

IMHO, the sound of the 886 was intended to be used with all the equalization and DSP options available. Absolute fidelity is not the key here.

For the record, there is no DAC chip that people traditionally think of (e.g. sigma-delta modulators, R2R ladder converters) in the F880 series or the ZX1, so there is no WM8740/8741, no PCM1792/1795, no ES9018, none of that --- S-Master is a proprietary pulse-width/density modulation method of converting digital straight to amplified analog signal. It is extremely efficient and uses fewer components; it shares similar topology to the Nuforce DDA-100 (not DAC-100) and other Class D amplifiers.

The DAC is a proprietary one. It's the S-Master HX; an integrated DAC-AMP chip.

yes this is spot on and here is the problem.

if u wanna position it as an audiophile grade player,u need to put in those chips!!

digital amps like s-master ain't gonna cut much ice and when u pay 259 pounds for 32 gb u expect something better than a standard chip otherwise get an ipod and use power amp!!??at least u get a camera, better screen and sexy form factor

It's a hybrid system.

Have you had an ears-on experience with any of the recent Walkmans?
The Walkman provides a smooth and bug-free UI with significantly better SQ than the iStuff. So, it's like the best of both worlds.

i have walkman e474 and my brother has s-series and he just sold his z series.

my limited point is that apart from z and x series, clip+ is better.i hear both everyday.

of z and x series,,,compare them with dx 50 and x3........................no one can deny that x3 and dx50 will sound better and have better amps as well.interface is another matter.this is only on audio quality

once again as the heading suggests its a DIGITAL amp and not a dedicated hardware amp.

its just like digital zoom on a camera vs the original optical zoom,,,,there is a diff
