not sure I agree with this. the main difference between zx1 and f886 except yummy eye candy aluminium and power button on the side seems to be the internal amp section. so if you're gonna plug an amp instead of using it, why buy the zx1?

i am curious about one thing,      Why do some of you plug an amp to your mp3 player. I think the power is enough for a common ears. Unless you want to use external speaker with the player.

I agree that the headphone out is a little anemic, but the line out is quite good and when you use it the output impedance is irrelevant. I have two little amps that work wonders on the Classic. I am actually quite sure that the F886 wil not be a better dac compatred to the amped Classic. And the Classic user interface is still the best I ever came across. Even better than all the iPod touch and IPhones.

You don't need one, but it could be interesting to try it.

True, but to a degree the same can be said about the AK120 or DX100.  Also, I rather have an external amp for more play time.

I only see one reason to use an amp and it is if the sound is not loud enough. But in this case i have alternative ways to have the sound more loud without spend any money.. I Just amplify the tracks to a certain dB that don´t introduce wave clipping (distortion). If you use an amp thinking that the sound will have better quality, i inform you that you only get the quality that the player gives. In a highh quality chain (amplifier speakers etc.. the best quality is given by the worst of them)

In case of the F886 and ZX1, they both support external DACs, therefore the player doesn't do anything else rather than managing the files. the DACs then do their job instead of the amplifier included on the DAP. There are other players that support this feature.

Ok, I understand. But for that purpose i think that  is less dispendious if you tried to find a dap witout amplification. and then paired is with an amp. For me  a smart way to use the line out capacitiy of this player is to paired it with an amplifier with a good pair of speakers and wake up the neighburs. For personal listening i don't see the need of an amp unless in case of a hearing desease,

Yeah well... you see, there is this thing called opinions, everybody has one and is just as valid as others. Specially with sound, there is no "perfection" and it's being constantly looked upon. I can argue for example, what's the point of having a high end DAP when you are going to listen only radio songs on it, for me music means that I have to listen a whole album, understand it and then move into another album, trying to understand even more music, way beyond the radio...

There are things however that are quite universal, like the mathematical facts exposed in the webpage that I show you before. You probably can't argue against that, however, differences between using or not an amp, depends of a lot of factors that are very hard for only one person to judge.

TL:DR. Don't be that guy that says what can and what cannot be done regarding audio equipment, it's never a good idea, specially with audio, to be like that.

vect this is just my opinion. I agree with you and i listen to whole albums not just songs that pass on the radio. I treat the albums at my way, i amplify them mantaining he difference in loudness between tracks- I like very much 80's music and in that era the records are in vinyl and the loundness was not very high. That's the reason i amplify them. I don't have pros or cons regarding amps but for me they are useless facing personal listening with earphones. Perhaps one day i give them a try. i have a cd of Supertramp  Crime of the century that has been digitally remastered and the sound is clipping almost in the whole cd.that was a bad work made by engeneers.    The only thing i want to know is  i'm i doing a good choice buying the 886 dap and the h3 earphones?.

Sending out a pcm stream involves a lot more than managing files. Sorry if that's already understood.
