I expect the F886 to be at least on par to your X3.  My F807 playing lossless file is on par with my iBasso DX50.  This could be the resulted of Euro volume cap.

sdcard swap mod ?????

What is this?

Assuming the mod is made by someone, it would allow for a sdcard to be swapped as the internal sdcard of the f886, my xt890 has a mod like that.

Do you find you have to turn the volume to maximum ?

I would say it was on a par and could be better if it had a bit more power,my favourite iems are my Grado gr8,s which need just a little more extra juice, but it is great with my shure 215.with easy to drive phones it will be ok and you wont max out!

are you guys sure there is an euro cap on this one?

from my understanding, the amp section choice(or lack of it) on this model makes it not powerful to begin with.

All F88X models have exactly the same amp/DAC 'S-Master HX Pro', the same amp is in the ZX1, hope that clears up any confusion.

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a new DAP, and I could afford either the F887 or a second-hand AK100.

How would you compare the sound signature and the sound quality of these two?
And, without any sound enhancement, which one can deliver better sound?

Btw, I'm currently using the Cowon J3, and I like its sound signature and spacious sound stage.

Thanks

Sony confirmed it has got an EU volume restriction:

'In regards to your query unfortunately the mentioned walkman will have the european restrictions and it can not be removed through the firmware update.'

Sony Customer Support

Sony Europe Limited

For that reason I'm out...

I have NWZ-A845. It definitely has the European restriction. But it drives most of my cans including the AKG K702 and the Sennheiser HD650 well. Only that those benefit from amping. But they would need amping also out of an uncapped Walkman. So yes the cspping costs you some volume but my Ultrasone Signatures are loud enough for and also my Sony EX1000 or Sennheiser IE80.

Back in stock for £259 on sony uk site for those still interested.  Amazon still £297 (at least it's dropped £3.00!).

Are you sure of that? Then why the high price difference?

prices for this dap are all over the place. I can't follow even with my usually foolproof method of 1$=1£=1€  ^_^.

I ordered one because I want to believe sony really solved the hissing curse. until now the sony daps I've owned that did hiss are:

all of them!!!!!

I've never been so close to affiliate myself with a religion.

Don't get the AK100, because unless you red wine mod it, it is not going to be a good match with a lot of headphones due to its 20 ohms output impedance.
