iPod dock connectors.. Are they illegal or something?

Hey guys, I thought you could possibly clear something up for me.

I'm pretty keen on making my own LOD cables for my iPod.

I've been told to shop at RIDAX. However, all of their iPod dock connectors are labelled as "SANDISK/CREATIVE/GOPRO" dock connectors.. When they clearly look like perfect iPod LOD connectors.

An example is here: http://www.chargeconverter.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=82

I emailed the owner to ask if they were compatible with iPods, and he bluntly told me "No." with no explanation.

Is there some kind of licensing being dodged here that I'm not aware of, that he isn't openly allowed to discuss?

Or are the wrong product images being used on EVERY single dock product?

I'm really confused about this. It feels like getting these connectors is becoming increasingly difficult, and I can't see why.

FWIW, I can't imagine ANY dock connector that could be used with Sandisk, Creative AND a GoPro.. I'm pretty sure the only similarity they might share is the Micro SD slot?

I'm going to guess Apple is careful on controlling who makes products (like cables) that work with Apple's LOD port.

Apple gets a royalty cut from every LOD cable sold.

So why would Apple want the pieces for LOD ports floating around, as it would make it harder to get royalties.

Apple guard their opportunities to profit from their products very jealously. Even a small trader using the name iPod in connection with a connector probably risks a lawsuit.

I don't like being regarded purely as a revenue stream. So much the more the more reason to avoid their products. Large corporations with their ability to circumvent national legislation are becoming as much of a threat to democratic citizenship as terrorists. It's like all the worst science fiction dystopias are coming true.

The solution: I just bought from Qables instead.
