God. I'm getting my drivers mixed up. :p

All the models have the full range BA right? The H2 is two way has a bigger dynamic driver. The H3(3 way) has an even bigger dynamic driver and a super tweeter.

Okay. So, its down to how well the crossover is implemented? Coupled with a unique tuning of the full range BA for each model?

Also, I have a doubt regarding Sony's crude FR graph

So the dynamic driver not only takes care of the bass but contributes to the mids and low highs? See the parallel white and orange line. Maybe that's why the detail isn't completely BA-ish? Or is this how hybrids generally work?

Much unlike the XBA series

Perhaps Sony could release a special edition XBA-H1 with some extra detail thrown in.

I love the graph for the H3 "check it out guys, this is the bit that does makes the sound HIGH RESOLUTION" =). Speaking of Sony marketing, don't they also like to claim that their high end headphones can produce sound up to like 30,000Hz?

Not saying they are worth $99 (MSRP originally) but with a small bit of tweaking out of my iPhone 5, using the Accudio app, they sound perfectly fine, in fact nicely detailed and coherent. Have a little Joshua Redman playlist running and sounds very nice to me. I think you must have gotten a bad fit, never tried some EQing or something like that. Admittedly, they are a bit bass thin without EQ, but with it, they are actually pretty good. I would recommend them, especially at the lower prices these days.

I've done everything under the sun to improve the sound believe me, but any sound body is under an iceberg. It's like hearing sound from a distant room in a mansion. There's no distortion, yipee!.... On reflection, i don't think the H1 can topple my 90's. They have everything that is promised in the good H1 reviews, plus bags of clarity.

I've been 20 years with Sony IEM's and over ears. I know a bum product. You have been warned. It was so bad I didn't dare upgrade to a 2 or 3. Can the 9mm driver save the H1? I hope so. The following Sony IEM's squash the XBA-_1 into the microbe of an atom; XB_41 EX, XB-90 EX, EX 1000, EX 7550,EX600, EX 500-or-501- one is the other bum, the other is great.

I dislike the XBA-1 so much I'm tempted to give someone on here money to take it off me.

Ha, try 110 kHz which was the case with the SA5K wink.gif

All I can say is they sound good to me and I'm not alone. Check Clieos' review, a guy who seems to be a credible reviewer. What can I say? You may know a bum product but that is not the case for everyone with the XBA-1s.

If you have any other Sony IEM, that have hybrid tips and sound good to your ears, can you take their tips and mount them on the XBA-1? This could fix any fit and seal issues you can have with super clean and brand new hybrid tips from Sony. I had this problem with my EX-1000. They sounded awful at first, as I got no seal. Then after some hours of trying different tip sizes and variants, I came across the NC earbuds from my NWZ-A845 Walkman. I put them on, had a perfect fit immediately and thought these tips might save my day. Put them on my EX-1000 and they sounded fantastic. So you have a small chance if you can try this. I myself cannot believe that Sony will ever bring a bad sounding IEM to the market under their highly respected brand. Even the aforementioned NC IEMs that came with the Walkman sound respectable even though they are not the highest quality build as you can expect from standard accessories. If the seal is there all Sony IEMs and also my Sennheisers sound at least in a way that they do not damage the brand.

I paid $100 for the xba1, worth that? No. With around 50-60? Absolutely. For your average person they are good iem's.

The do have some clarity, they don't have distortion, but neither do they have a sound body, which is inexcusable. The IEM's I've listed will blow it totally out of the water. It was a mistake by sony, and it cost them big time. How many 1000's of people didn't go up to the 2 or 3 because of it. They had a '1' moment in the dynamic line with the 500-or -510, and they didn't dare make the same mistake with the next lines, as they hadn't with the preceding ex-310, instead you got golden riches. For all pockets.

Beating a dead horse. I think they sound fine, especially at 28 bucks. Need a small bass boost is all.

So yea I think the H1 are very good, Im hoping the xba40 are even better, can anyone comment on the clarity of the 40? Which has better bass, clarity and soundstage?

My pair more or less sucks for the price, unless I block the housing's vents. I'm trying to get my hands on a second pair, to clarify whether they're supposed to sound like this, or if I got a lemon.
