heres hoping the tech and know-how finds its way to 75xx pro series to make a sucesssor to the 7550.

i think a 7550 could use a little help in the treble range by adding a BA-driver to make it sound present and smooth.

You know that they have less treble and a smaller stage than the other EX's in the range since they are monitor earphones. That's how pro monitor earphones are tuned. You can't use them for long periods with a brighter possibly fatiguing treble presence. You want some off the treble presence for the mids to be more of the focus as well. Since they specifically took off treble like many monitors do, I would not expect anything like that to occur. Not trying to rain on your parade though. I think the 7550 will be around for a long time.

Looking at the new models I suspect the H3 looks like it will fit alot like the EX1000 as compared to the more shallow fitting MDR7550. I loved the fit of the 7550 but did not like the extra length of the EX1000 body.

I still may rebuy the 7550, I really liked it's sound and since I have a better option for transit and outside I am tempted to get a pair just for the office.

As in counterfeit? Or regional variations?

The real mystery is - will the H series retail alongside the XBA XX series, or will there be a period of confusion like when the EX and XBA series were simultaneously available?

The XBA XX series isn't even available in some countries - in Australia they don't seem like they will ever sell the updated series. I don't know if this means they are selling through old stock or that they have two different lines, with the XBA XX series for Japan's domestic market only.

I cannot see the XBA H1 filling in the low end of the market for Sony, but perhaps this is why the XBA-C10 exists. They may axe the XBA line and then have a lineup of C10, H1, H2, H3.

I wish they would streamline it all.

It should be, all the professional monitors are generally available for some time because production studios need to standardise around particular sets of gear.

No it literally varies even within the same country. Since it is from their professional line it seems to vary dramatically in price because it is rarer.

Ahh so it varies in terms of pricing not in model/contents.

fine with me.
it might even become the v6/7506 of iem's if it will be in the market for long with almost no updates.

so do you think there is no more improvements to be made by adding BA-driver to the 7550?

I reckon you could improve high frequency extension on the 7550 with an added BA driver, but honestly unless if is executed really well I can't see why you wouldn't be better off just using a single high quality dynamic driver / microdriver.

It would probably add to the soundstage; in my experience iems with multiple drivers usually create a more holographic effect.

Since everyone else is posting their wants, wishes and guesses, my gut tells me we'll see a low end that's exactly like or better, hopefully, then the EX 600/7550/1000. They went with that EX like shell housing for a reason so I'm guessing that dynamic driver will owe it's tuning to the forerunners, the EX600/7550/1000. Only time will tell of coarse. Anyone know if these new earphones are vented like the EX 600/7550/1000?

The thing is the XBA-HA series will be using a tweeter BA... Hope they get the highs right this time! Also not using the EX1000 driver, not saying it's bad, it's awesome but an upgraded version would be nice xD

Seems like every company is nowdays jumping on the "high-End" HPs and IEMs latly.

Im surprised noone told those companies that this is a rather small market, and even thou its growing, it wont have the capacity to consume so many products from so many brands.

Interesting new hybrid design from Sony. Hope it does sound fantastic! If only they had design the shell to be more ergonomic it would be awesome.

If there is a gold rush, do you think "I better not try to make it rich because so many other people are doing it"?

It's always possible that there is going to be a premium headphone 'bubble' but it would take something pretty disruptive (ie: 3D printers) to pop it.
