For Sale:
Woo Audio WA5-LE

Will Ship To: Continental US

SOLD:  Woo Audio WA5-LE (stock)

Here is your chance to buy a great amp that is one hardly ever sees for sale on the used market.  I bought this from Woo Audio in February of 2009.  It is a really wonderful amp, one of my favorite amps for the HD800, but I bought a BHSE (and I need to create room for it) so this has to go.  I am going to miss it dearly.  I love everything about the amp except, like all the non-hybrid tube amps I've owned, it has a bit of hum that is more apparent with certain tubes/headphones (see below for more details)*.  I don't notice the hum when music is playing and it in no way effects the glorious, lush sound.

This amp will be shipped in its original wooden crates and is big and heavy!  For example, a quick estimate from Fedex is that it will cost ~$165 to ship to ship to a Seattle via Fedex Home Delivery.  I will only be shipping this to the Continental US for obvious reasons.  As a method of precaution, I will only sell to those with positive feedback.  If you don't have positive feedback on HF but are willing to work with me so I feel safe selling to you, please contact me and we may be able to work something out.

Price:  $2000 shipped via Fedex ground (and insured) with the stock tubes**

Local sales receive a $150 discount.

This amp now sells from Woo Audio for $2750 + $100 shipping = $2850.

I would highly recommend getting upgraded tubes for this amp to make it shine.

Options:
Add a pair of "matched" Sophia Princess 300B Mesh Plate power tubes - add $175
Add a pair of "matched" Sophia Princess 274B Mesh Plate rectifier tubes - add $150
Add a pair of "matched" RCA 5U4G military rectifier tubes (coke bottle shaped) - add $75
I have some "matched" pairs of RCA grey glass 6SN7 (40's - practically unused) and Sylvania JAN 6SN7wgta brown base (60's) that I would be willing to part with if you were interested in one of them.

I would prefer to sell the amp with the Sophia Princess 300B and 274B tubes as I will have no use for these tubes and they sound wonderful together. Thus during the first couple weeks of the sale, I may only sell the amp to a buyer who wants to buy the amp and SP tubes (I might be willing to sell the amp with just the SP 300B tubes though).  If you are just interested in the amp, please PM me still so that I know that you are interested.

All the tubes except for the 300B tubes have been tested in a B&K 747 tube tester and test good.  I don't have a way to test the 300B tubes (except in the amp); they work great in the amp.

*Hum:  I usually use the HD800 or HD650 out of the "low" output and it is pretty quiet that way and still a lot louder than I would ever want.   Even out of the "high" output, I don't find the hum to be noticeable when music is playing.  You can also adjust the attenuator to make it quieter.  The amp has has this slight hum since I got it and Jack Woo said this was normal.   I also have a house that was built in 1939 so it is possible that the amp would be much quieter with newer power.  In fact, ever (non-hybrid) tube amp I have owned has been a bit noisy in my house.

**The stock tubes are the pairs of cheap 300B, 5U3C (5U4G), and 6SN7 that came with the amp.  I only used these tubes to test the amp when I got it and to just now to test that they still work.  One should note that Tung Sol 6SN7gtb tubes that came with the amp were supposed to be "matched."  However, when I got them, I tested them in my tube tester and one tested much higher than the other.   Also, the one that tests higher is a bit noisy (static sound).  I would be happy to throw in another Tung Sol 6SN7GTB (from another year) that tests closer to the quiet tube and is also quiet.  Since this is a SET tube amp, the driver tubes do not need to be perfectly matched. I would highly recommend getting upgraded tubes with this amp since it really helps it shine.  I would also be willing to swap out some matched EH 6SN7 that I have; these tested new but one of them is a little noisy.  The noise could go away with time, I haven't really used them.

Um, yeah-I've PM'd you twice about this...still selling? I'd be looking to buy with the 300Bs, and possibly the Sophia Rectifiers as well.

Bought most of the tubes listed as well. ;) Now to do some serious research on this thing-I gotta admit I pretty much bought it for looks alone. :O That-and Frank I has been raving mad about it so I figured I'd see what's up before my Levi hits...also, had to purchase a stock HD800 cable again lol. Wish that Woo was balanced...
